E500 Sport: Chrome or Painted?

E500 Sport: Chrome or Painted?
Looking to change out the wheels and tires for something a bit more aggressive. Considering 5 Spoke AMG's which are available in painted and chrome finish. Would appreciate comments on the finish with respect to looks, wear and tear, and brake dust cleaning.

It depends on what look you are trying to achieve. If you are going for the sport racing look, silver painted all the way. But, if you are going for the flashy show off look, chrome would be the way. Although, on a silver Benz or any other silver car, silver painted always. Here is a pic. of mine with Carlsson 19's. Good luck with the upgrade and post some pics. when you're done.

vdimemmo, no way! I love my wheels and bought them this year for a heck of a deal and would not be selling them so soon. I don't know who the other "Jimmy" is but it's not me. So, what are you going to end up choosing for your wheels?

Are yours the 1/6 Evolutions? What size are the front and rears? Where did you get them? Any mod's to fit them?

They are great wheels! They are the 1/6 Evo's with ET35 offset, 19X8.5 all around on 235-35-19 Pirelli P7000's. I got mine slightly used through ebay for pretty cheap. I had to refinish 2 lips as they had minor curb rash on them but I have a hook up for this in So. Cal. and it only cost me $50/wheel, they came out perfect. I did not have to modify anything except for the front fenders which I have not rolled yet as they rub once in a while when I have a lot of people in the car and I have to make a sharp turn into a driveway or something, nothing major. I have not had a chance to look in the classified's yet see how much he's asking for them. You can probably find a brand new set with tires for around $22-2500, depending on the tires.

and I agree that chrome wheels look good on a black car. Although, if you don't think that a sedan cannot be a sports car, then what would you call an E55???

This is the first time I've every put chrome on a car - but something about the E Class in black... there's plenty of chrome on it already so I just wanted to continue the theme.
I agree that chrome on a silver car is not the optimal look... I'm leaning towards powder coating the centers of my S2000's 2- piece wheels gunmetal (currently silver paint...)

Aha, so a sedan can be a sports car, glad you see the light! As for the E55, I believe it might be the fastest Benz right now but I'm not sure. What about the CLK55? Coupe, smaller, lighter??? Now I'm curious, can anyone enlighten us please?
