18 X 18.5 Rims on my W208 ?

Is it possible to upgrade my stock 17" Rims to 18 " but the 18" are all 18 X 8.5 ?

are these going to fit right or will need midification ? also will it affect the performance of the car ?

I appreciate any input
Thanks

The stock CLK430 rims:
17x7.5 F
17x8.5 R

If you upgrade it to 18x8.5 all around, there would not be any problem at all, but remember, you have to get the correct offset and proper tires.

The performance might just be a little better, considering you only have 1 inch wider for front wheels, probably when you are cornering.

The good thing to have the rims the same size all around is that you can do tire rotation.

If you want to, you can get the 18x9 or 18x9.5 rear and 18x8.5 front.

Luke, how is my answer?

Hope this helps

Thanks

Thanks for the insight ...

The size of tires that I had in mind is 245-40-18

only becasue I have these tires from another car ....

Would this size be OK for those RIMS on my CLK ?

thanks again

With those tires, I think you would be fine for the rears, not sure about the front though?

How bad are you planning to lower your car?

Try to ask Adonis, he has an 18 wheels set up. I am not that familiar with the 18" set up.

Let me know when you get the info..

Post 255-35ZR18's on 18x8.5

I have 18x8.5 wheels from Brabus on my w202 C-class, and I can assure you that you will have not problem except one slight problem. Maybe every now and then your front tires may rub against your wheel wells if you hit a hard dip or bump. Other than that, nothing else will happen. And these 18x8.5's were first put on with my stock suspension. Then later I added an H&R cup kit which lowered my car by 1.5 to 2.0 inches. The slight problem that I metioned earlier didn't get more aggravated either. But a stiffer suspension that lowered car didn't make it worse or better concerning the front tires hitting into the wheel wells during hard dips or bumps.

245/40-18's on a W208 ... no way that would work without rubbing

225/40-18 would be the correct size or, you can possibly squeeze a 235/40-18 but, even that is pushing the size limits very hard

hmmmm ...

The tires and rims are from a friends car. I just asked about the sizes again and this is what he said. Its a "2001 S500". The rims are 18" and the tires are :-

275/40 ZR18 Rear
245/45 ZR18 Front

I got conflicting reports that the front tires might rub !!.

Luke, are you saying these might rub or will rub ?

I guess if they start to rub, I can always buy 2 new tires for the front.

Thanks for everyone's assistance in this matter

Well,

Now that I read more posts from people with similar Cars, it seems that These Tires & Rims are not the best fit for my car.

From what ppl are saying the RIMS from the SL class is a better fit for my car ? and they should fit perfect.

Is this true ?

Its not only a matter of getting new tires, both the S-class wheels and the SL wheels will NOT fit your CLK. They both use 14mm bolts and your car uses 12mm bolts. Also, the offsets are WAY off.

The perfect tire combo for a W208 is 225/255, however, 235/265 will be okay too (depends on which tire you're using).

Talking

Harris thanks for the info.

I'm not going to start another contraversy regarding the 14mm bolts fitting on 12mm wheel.

I would rather stay as stock as possible, I just want to upgrade to 18" without any mods.

With that in mind, do you know what other MB comes stock with 18" rims that fits my W208 ?

I'm goin to look for some early take-offs on ebay

thanks again

Well....14mm bolts on a 12mm wheel or 12mm bolts on a 14mm wheel....anything is possible in the tuning world, the only thing that matters is how deep is your pocket!! Hahaha!!

I think there are NO AMG 18" wheels (12mm ones) that come STOCK will fit on a W208 EXCEPT the new W209 CLK55 18" Style IV double spoke. And I think you will have a hard time finding those as take offs on eBay because they are VERY nice. Also, there are only a few CLK55s around!

You can buy it though...they are not very expensive.

Good luck!!

SL AMG rims

Harris,

After doing a little more search. I found that the SL 18" rims have 12mm wheels.

Can anyone confirm ?

I found some 18" Rims on ebay that I'm interested in.

can anyone take a look at these and let me know they would fit on my 02 CLK430

I dont mind getting spacers but atleast the Bolts will be the same.

The wheels on the auction are AMG Style I. It looks like 17" to me. But we cant really see the difference between 17" & 18" from the pic. I dont think 2002 SLs have 18" wheels come in standard. It should have Style III 17" instead.

Also, SL wheels use 14mm bolts, I am very positive about that. Please guide me to a place which claims otherwise.

R129 SL wheels are 12mm. R230 SL wheels are 14mm.

There are tons of "SL" wheels that have very high (for the SL) offsets which will work fine on your car.

Also, 18" AMG Monoblocks (for the W210 E55) will work fine on your car as well.

Your first statement of "I think" is good, because it is incorrect. 18" Monoblocks fit.

Your second statement... not so good, because the SL (R129) uses 12mm bolts. The SL (R230) does use 14mm bolts. The previous poster mentioned that he found SL wheels for 12mm bolts, which is not that uncommon because the R129 was in production for 13 years.

You know, that's what I always say... I wasn't trying to be mean to Harris or single him out, just point out that you can't argue with someone that says "I think" or "I believe", but when someone says something is definitely a certain way and it's not... well.

Hey, don't forget your to pick up your taillights.

I must apologize that I was thinking the new SL all along when I made the remarks that SL uses 14mm bolts. I guess I am too crazy about the SL55!

The original question from the original poster was: do you know what other MB comes stock with 18" rims that fits my W208 ? scorchie, can you answer this question???? How many MBs have 18" that come standard? I can only think of one before, the new double spoke from the W209 CLK55, I missed the W210 E55 Monoblocks, my fault. But other than these two, I really cant think of a third wheel that can match his criteria.

I am afraid that I cannot agree with your statement that "There are tons of "SL" wheels that have very high (for the SL) offsets which will work fine on your car." If you may, please list ALL of the so called "tons" in here. I really want to count them. And as far as I know, SL wheels have a relatively LOW offsets. You've made a very interesting comment on your last post: "but when someone says something is definitely a certain way and it's not... well." I guess you must be pretty "definite" that there are tons of SL wheels out there, please tell us and lets count one by one.

Well, I know some AMG wheels will fit on a W208 without any problem. But I only say things that I am VERY sure, if you go to the official AMG site, it doesnt even list the Monoblocks as an option wheel for the W208. But CLK55s have 17" Monoblocks!!! Umm....strange! huh?

If you think you know more than anyone else in here, very well. I will keep following your posts and hopefully, I can learn a thing or two from you. Nobody in this world will know every single thing about car mods, so many people act like they're experts, unfortunately, they dont even come close.

I am still learning everyday and I have no problem admitting my mistakes....I am just trying to share info in here.
