Wheel Locks

Luke, does Tire Rack carry wheel locks? If so, do you have locks that will fit the OE lugs for a w208?

Luck, which McGard Locks for 2002 E55? That price is much better than the Dealer ones at $69. Thanks.

Maybe you should try looking into Gorilla locks. I've heard nothing but bad stories about McGard. My chrome locks are starting to peel off.

Aren't wheel locks pretty easy for thieves to defeat? Or are there ones that are actually good?

any thief can get past your wheel locks. Hell, they could steal your car if they wanted to, no matter how sophisticated your alarm system is. The key is to slow them down or to get them to give up. Amateur thieves won't go through the trouble to get past wheel locks, but professionals could take them off in a matter of minutes. But remember that slowing them down is the key. Also, do NOT put more than one set of locks on your car. It's more dangerous to you if you put more than one set of locks on your car because their strength does not match OEM lugs. To deter theft, f you're parking in a public area, I would recommend to get a car cover. It only takes 2-3 minutes to put on/take off and it doesn't draw any attention to your car. oh yeah, and don't blare your music with your windows rolled down when you enter parking lots. Anything that draws attention to your car is a potential hazard and is ASKING for someone to vandalize/steal your car.

Hehe car covers... had them stolen before too.

But yeah, the locks are just to slow them down. I was looking at the newsgroups and many mechanics say they can take them out with specialty tools easily.

Nope.

What has this world come to? People steal wheels, they steal your car covers, and they come and pull out your MB stars. Somebody buy these thieves a one-way ticket the North Pole please!

I had some Gorilla locks and they are not chrome plated - only steel and became very rusted and ugly.

Henry47 is correct - if someone wants your wheels they can get them. Even Retail Auto Parts stores sell the device to remove wheel locks when you don't have the key.

The Crooks are using cordless Impact Wrenches or 1/2" drills. You can buy them at Sears or Home Depot by Dewalt.

I have met a couple of guys that were 'jacked' in their own driveways in the middle of the night. The theives even leave behind the hydraulic jack for the owners for free.

oggle, one guy had the same situation. His wheels were stolen in front of his garage and he could not get his other car out of the garage until weeks later after insurance paid and the new wheels were bolted on.

WORD OF CAUTION:

Your Insurance Company may not want to pay for your 20" chrome plated spinning aftermarket wheels & tires if you had not declared them and paid the extra insurance premium to cover them.

I received a from from GEICO which required any aftermarket and custom parts added to the car must be declared including ICE stuff. ICE = In Car Electronics.
