Continental ContiExtremeContact... any good?

Hey luke, are these tires good? I am looking for a good handling tire that is VERY QUIET, soft ride, and has excellent rain traction. This seems to be a good tire, but I am not sure. I have driven my IS300 on my oem bridgestone Potenza RE040 (VERY LOUD) and michelin pilot alpin (fairly quiet, quieter than the potenzas).

depends on the weather
we are testing that tire right now ... I have completed my portion of the testing and found that while it was a pretty decent tire when considering ride quality and noise issues it also lacked a little performanc efor my taste ... the steering response just wasn't quite quick enough when compared to the Pirelli P-Zero Nero M&S it is supposed to compete with. Overall for less aggressive applications I would say it is a pretty good well rounded tire offering a good value

was '03 E320 - now - '04 S4
My '03 E320 is my daily driver. I have another car for track days so I was looking for good all weather performance. 2000 miles on 245/40/18s on AMG 18x8.5 offset 31 so far.

I'm very pleased - even though the tread looks like a snow tire - they seem to have less road noise than the oem 16" Conti Contacts.

Excellent in the rain. Somewhat mushy in the dry when pushed... but hey - it's no sports car anyway.

I'd buy them again.

I just swapped the OEM Sport Contact 2's for Pirelli's. IMO the Pirelli is as quiet, better riding and traction.

I was looking for high performance all season replacement tires for my S 55. After I did the compairsons I came up with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and Extreme Contact. In the past I never liked Continental tires but after reading the reviews I decided to try a set. They have only been on the car two weeks and have not been in water yet. They are quieter than the Dunlop 9000 they replaced. They seem to handle well on a heavy car. I've taken it into interstate exit ramps under acceleration and they stuck well. My feeling is that I really won't know if they were the best choice until a year from now but so far they are fine.

E-500
Luke:

I want to replace the Continental CH95's, 245/45/17 pm on
my E-500 (non-sport).

I have 15,000 miles on them and are not happy with them. They are nosier than I would like and very squirrelly at high freeway speeds.

I would like to have Michelins and can't seem to get the right tire pinned down. I am looking for a quiet, comfort ride with decent wear. We have very little snow, but A/S makes sense to me.

My first choice was the Energy MXV4 plus...can't find my size on the Tire Rack site or the Michelin site.

Second choice was the Pilot HX MXM4...same problem, except that it seems that someone on the W211 forum posted that he had them on his new E-500. Are they available?

The only tire that the Tire Rack site shows for the E-500 with my preferences is the Pilot XGT H4. The noise and comfort rating on this tire is not high.

What do you recommend?

Ed

Here are the top 3 to consider and I like the Michelin the best

P245/45ZR17 DUNLOP SPORT 5000 141.00
245/45ZR17 MICHELIN PILOT SPORT AS 213.00
P245/45R17 PIRELLI P-ZERO NERO MS 156.00

Had the extremes mounted in place of my OEM contisports about 1 month ago and there is a little more dry handling sacrifice than I expected, going off of the survey data. I drove them home through an absolute deluge yesterday and they shone brightly through the tough conditions. They resist hydroplaning very well and are very sure footed. So I'm happy so far. Will be elated if they can measure up to the survey numbers in snow and wear. If so I'll definitely be a repeat customer.
