Carlsson wheels messed up by discount tire story

A couple of weeks ago I had new Michellin tires put on my car, when they were going to put the wheens on the machine to dismount the tire I asked the guys if they were going to use the rubber inserts for the machine, they said it wasn't needed.

I knew they would scratch them, but I didn't complain any more or make them stop because those wheels have a couple of nicks on the lips (nothing big at all), but mostly the wheel has been messed up bu the brake dust which is stuck to it really hard on some areas, so I thought "free refinish" , I warned 3 different guys and they all said they were not needed.

One guy (the one that did the rears did an excellent job), no scratches at all! but the other two guys messed those fronts pretty bad, especially one that kept popping out of the machine :ouch:. So after they finished mounting the new tires I talked to the manager and explained the whole enchilada, he agreed to refinish or replace them (the manager knows me from years, and knows this is the first time ever they've done something wrong on any of my cars). I brought the wheels a few days ago to the guys (manager is on vacation for a week), they call me 2 days after and ask me to come pick up the wheels:

This guy tried to give me some replicas or something, but I recognized them immediately because they lack the carlsson engraving on the wheel (dumb asses, how can I miss that!!!!)

They tried to explain that Carlsson is on financial problems and that they can't find Carlsson wheels (1/5 diamond cut) with the Carlsson engraving on the front, because they've been making them like that lately, is this true???

I didn't take any pictures of the damage they caused, so don't ask

I still won't take anything else than the way thay should be, like this:

Did they really try to trick you into taking fake Carlssons? Or were they open about it?

As Luke posted before, Tirerack used to be the Carlsson distributor, however the 2 companies parted ways largely due to the wide variety of other Carlsson products that Tirerack had no interest in, and could not expect to sell.

Carlsson is not having financial problems. Your tire dealer is just too ignorant to ask Tirerack why they can no longer buy the wheels from them. They could even go one step further and ask Tirerack for a recommendation on where to find the wheels.

I would have them either replace the wheel with the correct ones, buy them back for you at your cost, or pay to have them repaired (which can be done).

I'm not sure if they were being tricked by the finisher, or if they were trying to trick me, but somebody is trying to trick someone that's for sure.

Belive me I'll get this resolved to my convinience, thanks for the advise.

Carlsson is definately not having any financial problems. I just went direct to on and off on different items that I am interested in. The discount tire shop is just trying to trick you! They just don't want to replace your wheels because they are very expensive. They can have the lips refinished as I did with mine for around $50 bucks a wheel and they will look brand new.

Ben, Isn't EvoSport the new US importer for Carlsson?

Just got off the phone with Discount tire, they'll replace the wheel with new wheels, Carlsson wheels, not replicas and bill the refinishing shop because they just admited they messed the originals up and that's why they tried to deliver the replicas.

I'm checking with Discount tire now about getting the OZ supperleggeras instead of the Carlssons and pay the difference.

Does anybody here want to buy 2 carlsson wheels 18 x 9??? they are in good shape, one has a kind of not too short scratch, but other than that they are in good shape.

Poch-

Make sure to b!tch slap the refinisher. That's really offensive.

The tire shop shouldn't continue to do business with a sc4mbag like that.

Good catch too by the way.

doesnt it suck for the new distributors of carlsson that the old distributors dumped the prices so much that they have ruined the market for carlsson rims? people will keep on thinking about how cheap they could have got carlssons before and wouldnt wanna pay to get them now.

I agree! I bought mine used but got an unbelievable because of the cheap prices from the old distributors that were almost giving them away. That was my negotiating tool! Give it some time and I think that everyone will catch on to the Carlssons again and the newer distributors will be back on track!

It does suck, where can I get prices for the front wheels discount tire is going to replace, they are going to give me full credit for the OZs I want, but I want to price those front tires before I write numbers down with discount tire.

I am also going to sell my rears since I'm getting the OZs, how much will I be able to get???

What is the deal????

I have one of the wheels that they wanted to give me, center cap doesn't seat all the way in, lip is a little bit different and there is no engraved lettering in front of the wheels saying carlsson, yet in the back it says Carlsson, but it also says Rondell. This is confusing to me, does anybody know anything about this?

Well, if Rondell makes fake Carlsson rims, they should not be allowed to have Carlsson stamped on the back, or anywhere on the rim for that matter!!!
