265/40/22 vs 285/35/22
Recommended tire size is 285/35/22.
Is it possible to fit 265/40/22?
Any pros and cons?

First make sure that the size tire you want to fit, 265, is approved for mounting on your width wheel (you did not mention it). Also, if your wheel is wide and the 265 is on the narrow side of approved widths, your tire will be stretched so even if it mounts and you risk damaging the wheels. That risk is already increasing because you are using 22" wheels which will decrease your tire sidewall height, assuming that you are maintaining the same overall diameter. If you increase your overall diameter your speedometer will not read actual speed anymore as it is calculated using number of revolutions and rolling circumference. I would just use the tire size that is recommended, they have already taken all of this into account... and since you are asking the question, I doubt you will be wanting to manipulate these variables to fit your needs. Why do you want to use the 265 anyways? Contact patch is mostly dependent on air pressure, but you will be changing the shape of your contact patch for less width IIRC. Not something I would want to do on an SUV, which already has a high center of gravity and will now most likely drive worse with the addition of (assuming heavier) 22" wheels...

Did you loose the smooth luxury ride?
I have a ml350 on order now and not sure if I rather the 21's or 22" rim with either
285/35 or 295/35 (10m) on them.
I don't want to loose the smooth luxury ride . What's your thought on this?
Do you have any pic's of you ML with the 285/35/22 on it that I could see?

but yes i meant the 22" rims will be 10mm wide.
but i was wondering which size tire for the 22" rims will still give a good smooth ride. not a sporty rough ride.
Thats why i was wondering ,.. since you had 255/50/19's and just got a set of 22" rims now as you stated above, i was courious if you lost some of the luxury smooth ride by going to 22's.
tires question.. 285/35/22 285/40/22 265/40/22
