Need new all-season's

I'm going to need a new set of all-season ultra high performance, and I would imagine quite a few are in my situation. That is I have a W211 E500 with the Appearance/Sports package, and that comes with Max Performance summer tires, Conti ContiSportContact 2's in this case. Living in northern NJ, it does get cold, and we do get some snow, so I need a good set of all-season's.

What is recommended these days? The sticky about the best tires in this forum is now a little out of date. Considering some of the highest rated UHP All-Seaons.

Compare the Conti ContiExtreme AS, Michelin Pilot Sport AS, Yoko AVS db S2, and the Dunlop SP 5000, and the one that I am most interested in right now, the Pirelli P-Zero Nero MS. Would like to have a queiter tire than the current Conti's, and of course a decent ride, very good wet and dry handling, and be able to handle light snow.

On my previous car, I had a Lexus GS 300 with the Dunlop SP 5000 Asyms, and for about the first 10-15K miles they were great. Took them through a couple of snow storms and they performed admirably. After this 10-15K period, they still showed great tread wear, and were still quiet and handled well, but the wet performance deteriorated dramatically.

Your best bet is to call Luke at the Tire Rack. He will give you the straight dope.

depends on the weather
In reality the only tire you should consider for your W211 is the Pilot Sport A/S. That is if you have the 18" staggered wheels and tires ..... do you have the 17's or 18's

the Pilot Sport A/S in the 245/45-17 size is $213.00 and would be my choice but, for something a little more cost effective the Sport 5000 is my second choice an it is only $141.00

I would offer a slight caveat with the pilot sport's. I recently received a set from Luke. There has been some talk here that this tire will cause the E to drift to the right (not that drift, another drift to the right ). My stock conti's on 17" did not pull to the right, nor did my SO-3's. The pilots are pulling a lot. I will say that Luke has been great about this. I couldn't ask for better service. Luke, if you read this before I speak with you, I put the SO-3's on today just to make sure and they did not pull. So I guess we have to swap out these tires. Unfortunately, it seems to be hit or miss here. I know several folks here who got the pilots and had no problems, but some did. I'm disappointed since the tires did feel really good.

I just read about your post, and with the stock Conti's, they pull as well for me, with a 2004. It has gotten a little worse after about 1500 on the odo.

I put Pilot Sport AS on my mom's E430 and they are great. She lives in the mountains where some of the roads get muddy and never dry out from October through April. They are quiet, track true and have more grip than the Continentals that came stock.

FWIW, all tires from all manufacturers "can" have problems with pulling or drifting.

Just picked up some ExtremeContact Conti's and they are definately makeing me happy so far. Road noise is quieter than the 16" Michelin's that I had before. In the rain they seem like they ae on rails. Only had them for a few days though, bu very pleased with my choice. The price was excellent as well...
