HRE 540/640 Wheels vs BBS LM's
Was wondering which one is lighter? Trying to compare the HRE 540/640 series to the BBS LM's in 19"s staggered set up and was wondering which one is lighter with and without tires? Comments and suggestions are welcome.
Thanks!

i don't know which ones are lighter (but i would have a strong guess that the BBSs are). but aren't the 640 series for SUVs/trucks? i think you're limited to the 540 or 440 series (according to wheelexperts site)
i really like HREs center caps. i also like HRE 648s (too bad it's for trucks). maybe peter can answer this, but what makes it an SUV wheel?

The HRE is lighter than the BBS. It also looks better (this is subjective) and is more unique. Too many people have LMs. Be different. There are several HREs to choose from. The old 440 2 piece series is discontinued. The new 440R* 3 piece series is simply awesome. All HREs have forged centers with spun rims.
The 640R* series wheels are only made in truck offsets. There is nothing that neccessarily makes them truck/SUV wheels, just that they don't and won't make them for car bolt patterns and offsets.
* R = reverse drop center

What's the deal with the 640's? I've seen the pics in magazines and it looks nice especially the lips on them that's why i'm hooked on the 640's. What's something equivalent on the 540 series with the fatter lip?

The 540R series for reg. passenger cars won't be available till after SEMA 2002. It is already available for Porsche and Ferrari. They have made a couple of prototype sets, but they aren't making any more till the official release. They WILL NOT make any 540R series now (except for 544R 19"), (I have asked many times, they have said no) so please don't ask.
The "R" is what will get you the look you're after, not specific to any particular series.

Thanks for that pic and great info Peter. Do you know if you can get that same exact lip in the 640 series mesh style(BBS LM's mesh style) not the SUV version but for a car?

HRE only measures a car one time, when it is a new model. Your car (W210) was measured in 1995. The build tolerance on each car does not vary enough to warrant measuring every single car. They will not measure each individual car if they have specs on file. Even then, you can look at off the shelf wheels, do some calculations, and figure out what works. Every situation is a little different, that is what they mean when they say they are totally custom. The dealer sits down with the customer, discusses his/her wants and needs, then we discuss things like offset, outer and inner rim width, face design, finish, backspacing, width, tire size, etc... As the dealer, I can specify any combination of the above to make a "custom" wheel for the customer. They have no "off the shelf" wheels, every wheel is cut and processed after ordering.
At any rate, the dealer should know what the specification range for every car that they specialize in. That way, they can answer the customer's questions properly. The problem is, most dealers and don't know this stuff liek they should.
