After Market Valve Stem Repair

Hello. We purchased a new MB SL 600 roadster back in 2007 and a few years later purchased after
market wheels for the automobile. Now we are faced with air leaking from the driver's rear side tire. After umpteen inspections we find that we are in need of a valve stem repair on the tire. Because the wheels are after market Mercedes Benz does not do the repairs. Can anyone out there tell us where we can get a valve stem replacement for our car? Many thanks!

This is a valve stem on a TPMS sensor, correct? Or was your SL manufactured prior to 4Q07 when TPMS became mandatory? Either way, go to any tire shop and have a new valve or TPMS installed. If TPMS, the tire shop can program it into the SL's system.

Valve Stem Repair on 2007 SL600

The car is now at a tire shop with the knowledge that the valve stem is leaking on one of our tires on after market chrome wheels. They say it can be repaired. We will keep our fingers crossed cause no one else seems to know what to do to get this tire working properly other than change the wheels altogether.

I find the Schrader rebuild kits inexpensive at the local auto parts stores. I think they should be rebuild every time the tires are replaced. For my Mercedes sensors the part #'s are 20013 and the stem is 20020.

I never thought about this -- what's the wear factor that affects it?

If the valve stem looks to be in good condition and its just leaking air can always try torquing the nuts down. I recently had my tires replaced and the shop didnt tighten them down enough. Some Mercedes sensors say 6nm and others say 8nm.

Since i bought the car I had replaced three of the sensors due to low batteries. One of the sensors was on the car since I bought it and it was so corroded it broke when trying to unscrew the nut and had to be cut off. Guessing brake dust and road salt eat away at the parts.

Yikes! Just noticed your location -- I grew up in PA and remember well the way road salt destroys cars back there.

The valve stem repair was done by a certified tire/auto mechanic and all is working perfectly! Thank you all for your input.
