AMG monoblock v. ASA monoblock
I have a Black CLK 320 with 17" AMG 5-spoke wheels. The wheels came with the car and are very worn out (scratched, chipped, and slightly bent). I want to replace them eventually but i am confused about the quality of AMG wheels vs. cheaper alternatives such as ASA replica wheels. The style i like the best is the 18" or 19" monoblock. Here's a link to the tirerack wheel search page for my year CLK 320. http://www.tirerack.com/upgrade_gara...8&autoModClar=
My questions are as follows:
1) Are ASA wheels stronger than their AMG counterparts?
2) Do they hold their finish well and resist bending as well as or better than AMG wheels?
3) Do the monoblock wheels made by ASA look significanty different than those made by AMG? (the ASA's look brighter, flatter, and thinner to me)
4) OK, the ASA 19" wheel weighs 30 pounds. Will this affect performance as far as handling and accelleration is concerned?
5) What are the advantages and disadvantages of 18 v 19 inch wheels.
Sorry for all the questions but i wanted to get it all out in one post and thanks a ton for the help.

4 wheeled car.
Well Real AMG is always better than any replica, in the sense that it's not some fake stuff. With that said, ASA isn't bad either.
anyway, I have a set of AMG mono II's chrome 18x8F and 18x9R for sale soon hopefully.Would you be interested?

I am not an expert but from I read, to go from 17-inch to 19-inch will change your ride characteristic tremendously. You will need lower profile tires with very tiff side wall. You will have to drive more carefully to avoid any pothole.
On the other hand, 19-inch will look great on a CLK.

.........for some very strange reasons, this topic gets a heated response from vendors who sell "genuine" wheels only. Is it because it affects their pocket book? My experience is with LKorinser wheels not AMG and you can make your own conclusions. I have 3 "genuine" Lorinser LM6 wheels on my CLK and one replica one. No one can tell the difference. I am sure someone out there with an intense interest in this topic can probably tell the difference, but that so far has not been my experience. I think that since you can put a supercharger in your car for just a little more money as 4 "genuine" wheels that look and perform the same as the not so genuine ones, I myself think it is a waste of money.

they are every bit as strong as the AMG's

yes they hold their finish very well .... the AMG looks a little better though

they look the same ... it is hard to tell the difference (exept for the 'AMG' moniker
4) OK, the ASA 19" wheel weighs 30 pounds. Will this affect performance as far as handling and accelleration is concerned?
yes the 19" ASA does weigh 30 lbs. but, AMG wheels are heavy as well
5) What are the advantages and disadvantages of 18 v 19 inch wheels.
19's add to the bling factor and ride pretty stiff

that wasnt how it was shown on the tirerack web page. But if thats the case maybe I will just order those. Can I get a better pick of the AMG IV immitations? I want to get a 17" x 7.5" on all 4 so I can do a 4 tire rotate.
