18" wheels from SL fit on E

Can someone tell me if I can put 18" wheels from a 2005 SL600 (the AMG sport wheels) on a 2003 E500?

Also, what is the widest tire I can put on the 2005 SL600 with 19" rims?

Regards.

Yes to Q1.

The best sizing I would recommend is 255/35/19 and 285/30/19.

Hi Harris,

So the E500 can take 255 18" front and 285 18" rear with no rubbing problems?

Hey, you asked about WHEELS, not tires. No, if you were to put those wheels on a E500, get a different set of tire: 245/40/18 and 275/35/18.

If one uses SL wheels of ET33 on the rear of a W211 and uses 275 tires, it will almost certainly rub. 265 width is what AMG recommends when using these incorrect application wheels.

If he is talking about the "AMG Sport Wheels", I am assuming he is referring to the Style III. That wheel CAN be shared between W211 and R230. Those are NOT incorrect application wheels.

And if you check on TR's website, they recommend 245/275 combo as well. I dont think TR would recommend their customers to put on a set of tires that might have rubbing problems.

Oh, that is not an AMG wheel. That is called Alphard. The rear has an offset of ET40. I dont suggest you to put those wheels on a E.

Hi Harris,

Those wheels came with the AMG Sport Package. I did not know they are non-AMG. Does that manufacturer make a 19" wheel with the same spiral design?

The Styling III has a specific part number for use on the W211. I would assume that is the "correct application"... the R230 I would not consider a "correct application" even if AMG fits them. When AMG fits those wheels, they recommend 265 width tires.

Just curious, do you have a W211 or have you tried this? I have a WHOLE STACK of AMG wheels here from the R230, and the car to test them on, and I think I know pretty well which ones rub and which do not, and why they do and don't rub.

BTW, TireRack does make mistakes occasionally on their web site.

Why not? That offset is correct for the rear of the W211, better than the R230 AMG wheels.

no we don't ( atleast we try not to .... show me 1 error on our website) ... as a matter of fact our website is rather conservative when it comes to various fitment issues

I think I have pointed some out to you on the phone before...

There was the issue where the 1999 C43 and 2001 CLK55 wheel fitments were different because of "brake caliper clearance issues" but we know they both have the same brakes...

And how the 2003 W211 E55 didn't even show up on the site for a while (so we used 2004 instead).

But you're right, they aren't often.

Yes, I agree AMG recommend 265 tires, but that doesnt mean we cant put 275s. On my AMG catalog, Styling III for the W211 and R230 shares the exact same part number. I dont know whose reference is more updated. However, I dont see the point of arguing.

We have fitted Styling III and Styling IV on W211s with 245/275 Toyo T1-S and have NO rubbing problems. I still remember you said you put 245 front tires on W208s, I dont think AMG recommend that either.[/quote]

I dont think TR is wrong when they recommend 245/275 for W211 (we've done it). Are you saying 275 will DEFINITELY rub no matter what tire you use?
