CL65 AMG vs Weistec E55 AMG

Quarter-miles are for sissies. Now that I have your attention, let’s put down the torches and pitchforks and hear me out for a second. Quarter-mile drags are fun, but they are over way too quickly. Finally people have come to realize that, hence the half-mile and full-mile events all around the country. I myself went to one a few months ago, and let me tell you, the caliber of car is completely different from your local drag strip.

Drag cars are purpose-built machines that only have enough fuel to last them a quarter-mile. They will, of course, fly down that quarter-mile faster than God, but they run out of steam right after they hit the checkered. Cars built, or rather, modified for the standing half- or full-mile, are built to run and run and run. Some even hit the low 200-mph mark, and that is seriously quick, especially when you consider that most of these cars are still street cars.

That brings me to the reason for this article. One of our own members, Grip Grip, hit up their local Wannagofast half-mile event with their twin-turbo CL65 AMG … and they went fast.

Here is the videographic evidence.

The first run was 149 mph.

The second run was 150 mph.

Grip Grip showcased that you don’t need a billion-horsepower Supra, or purpose-built drag car to have some fun — although it does help to have a CL65 AMG. All you really need, though, are the balls, some cash, and most likely a helmet, and you can take your own AMG to near its top speed. Get out there, everyone, and peg that needle on the limiter! They have some great pics from the event over on this thread, so go check them out.
