Installed a wideband in my car, and wow is my car running rich!

Put this in yesterday:

Hardest part was finding a freaking fuse that wasn't on all the time, I've never had a car that had all the fuses powered all the time. I ended up swapping the fuse for the cigarette lighter to the "switched" side ( it's in the fuse box in the engine bay ) and using the cig. lighter as my power source.

Anyways, I did a few WOT runs and holy crap....my car from a 2nd gear start ( 40mph ) goes to mid 10's and once it hits 3rd it'll go to low 10's and even hit high 9's every once in a while.

Time to hit up Jerry...lol.

Just a question but did you calibrate it when you got it. Brand new or not they need to be calibrated but i'm sure you already know this.

If you do put her on a dyno for tuning, I'd be interested in seeing the difference between the reading from the wideband and the tailpipe sniffer just for sh*ts and giggles.

My last time on a dyno we actually tested that. It was almost always identical and at the most .2 off but usually only for a split second. ( thats with no cats also FYI)

GT-ER - Based upon this, my guess is you would have been fine with stock injectors ...I think you have always been running crazy rich ....

Better rich than poor though, right ????

9's wow...that is PIG rich! Are you noticing black smoke? What type of WB did you get? Some do need to be free-air calibrated, that almost sounds like it's not reading correct.

Unfortunately no, AFR's can show plenty rich & still starve a cylinder...the best way to see for sure is to have separate EGT probes for each cylinder....thats how you know for sure your fueling correct & evenly. I've seen die-hards drill their headers for this.

Yup...black smoke is sometimes visible.

I think cij911 was being sarcastic.

GT-ER - Well generally you will see AFRs 0.5+ leaner at the tail pipe than up near the engine, so maybe you were fine....no idea....Glad you have a wideband now ...

Firechaser - Yes EGT in each cylinder is optimal if you are tuning at the ragged edge, but kind of silly for a street car IMHO....

My A/F ratio was fine on the stock injectors...thus why I never blew my engine. But they are 100% maxed out just to get to high 11's/low 12's.

Why would I want to calibrate it again? I did it once and stoich is reading on spot. Why would it be so hard to believe that the car is running so rich? Especially if it's blowing a little black smoke sometimes ( which I stated earlier ).
