Broken Clips on Chrome Automatic Shifter Ring
So somehow all of the clips have broken on the Chrome ring that houses the Automatic Shifter assembly and indicator on my center console.
I used some Plastic epoxy a few weeks ago and that seem to hold for about 12 days, but once the sun baked on the car for several hours, It weakened the seal and pop back up.
I can't find the part number nor the technical term for this piece.
I went to my MB Dealer yesterday and they looked the part up, Gave me an insane price, but would not give me the actual part number or Name.
I need to get this piece replaced stat!!!
Is it the whole assembly with gear indicator and Mode selector that needs to be replaced or is it just the plastic ring itself?
Who can help me out with this one?
Thanks in advance!!

You need to buy the whole bezel & boot as an assembly. Expensive as hell.
Search - C230 Sport Coupe posted a fix using paper clips.

Just keep checking ebay; it'll show up eventually, most likely from Potomac German Auto in MD.
From the dealer, it's insane. Might as well trade it in.

Yeah, that is much better.
The surround should be had for around $20-30 from a salvage yard, I'd imagine.
To op - might want to call Potomac directly, and see if they can keep an eye out for a surround for you. Actually, would be surprised if they don't have any in inventory.

Thank You all for the heads up.
I decided to do something productive.
I ran up to Walmart and bought a tube of All purpose Plastic Epoxy.
The withstanding temp. ratings are pretty high and this stuff stunk up the whole garage, So it has to work!
Anyway... I did a very pristine detailed job at spreading the epoxy evenly and concealed.
This morning on my way to work it was mounted Rock Solid.
So only time will tell now........
If this doesn't fix it, I'll be happy to shell out the $180 for a new one.

You don't have to buy it with the boot and knob, the chrome surround (the part with the tabs) and the shift indicator can be had as a seperate unit. I put one on a used C280 a work a while back and I think the wholesale price was somewhere around $150.

That's still way too high. To me, a free 5-minute call to Potomac is worth saving probably around $120, but I'm weird like that.

I just read the thread about the gear shift surround and found your post say that you have developed a paperclip method... I am interested as the clips have broken on my 2006 C280. Please provide any info you can...
