Exclamation Collision Prevention Assist Plus Inoperative Error

Anyone ever run into the attached two error messages while driving?

This occurred as the family and I were on the freeway exit ramp yesterday. The car at first seemed to drive OK and then by the time I got close to my destination it seemed to also lose engine power as I had to mash the pedal down to the floor in order to get the car to start moving (perhaps the emergency brake or brakes in general were auto engaging?). We decided to grab a bite to eat at the restaurant we stopped at, came back out, and the car started and ran just fine the rest of the day.

Seems like it may have just been a computer glitch. Just not sure if this is something I should take it to the dealer for or not. I don't want something like this to happen on an upcoming road trip we have and then to get stranded in the middle of the desert...

a lot of times these radar systems (collision prevention assist, blind spot assist, distronic...) get interference from external radar transmitters on the same frequency and make them act up intermittently. i wouldn't worry about it unless it happens frequently.

That's not something that should happen, especially with the loss of power. The prudent thing to do would be to schedule a trip to the dealer to see if an error code was recorded.

I had the EXACT same issue about 3 times...

Error code comes on, engine has a delay in acceleration... it makes it feel like it lost power.

The only time the dealer was able to pull the codes was when I had the error occur and I drove straight to the dealer without shutting down the car. If the car restarts everything goes back to normal.

Now, they've since did some fix, and the problem hasn't come back. My SA mentioned they cleaned some connectors because there were paint overspray over them. I've attached the SO here. Let me know what your dealer says, I'm interested to find out.

Lol, no. Traction control light came on at the same time the message popped up, never pushed a single button.

Nope, this was while going about 65mph exiting the freeway that it occurred. I took the photos after I got to a safe spot and could put the car in park.

Interesting. Sounds like I will have to wait for it to happen again though as it's been turned on and off several times since getting the message initially. I was initially going to bring it straight the the dealership but the service department closes at 1pm on Saturdays and had way to many things going on that afternoon to try and rush over there and just hope they had a last minute loaner handy.

This also happened to me , but it happened to me after I was hit to the side. The same message popped up saying that the vehicle is inoperable and at the same time the ABS kicked in which made me drift my way back home

I suggest that you should go have your car checked out, you don't want this to suddenly come back while you are on a highway

I had my car in at the dealership on Monday for a separate issue and let them know about these error messages as well. They did some investigation and couldn't replicate the issue but did find an error code. They did a software update and began doing some more research on the issue. As it turns out there is a service bulletin out there for this and it is due to something rubbing onto a wiring harness for the collision prevention assist system. They apparently have a fix for the issue, however that part is nowhere to be found except at the production facility and the only cars getting that part are the ones on the assembly line at this time. They even called Germany and they don't have any parts there to ship over either. They did out in an order for the part but couldn't tell me when it would be in stock. The dealership did say that they took a look at the photos of the fix and basically created their own fix for it in house and applied that to my car in the mean time.

I definitely appreciated the effort that the dealership went through but find it is a bit odd that some of the parts couldn't have been set aside for any existing cars that run into the issue could be fixed in a timely manner.

Guess it's not fixed as the system failed me again while going 75mph on the freeway. Lost the engine power and had to pull over to the shoulder to turn the car completely off and then back on again to rest the system. Had I need to do any sort of emergency maneuver when it failed I would have been screwed as pressing the gas was getting me nowhere. Guess it's back to the dealership in a couple of days...

Could you perhaps post the repair order that shows the technicians story including the bulletin number if it's written in there?

I had this same problem and it has been resolved by the dealer. They had to order a part from Germany called a "connector" for the computer. It took 3 days to receive the part.

Dealership had the car for three days and couldn't determine the cause. The computer didn to log an error codes for when the issue occurred last Saturday so nothing was done.

Today I had just pulled into a parking lot and just as I was about to park the system failed once again on me. I couldn't take it to the dealership at the time as I had my daughter with me and she needed to eat shortly and I had no bottles with me. Went and ran my errand, came back, and of course the errors cleared after the car was shut off and turned back on.

This issue is getting pretty ****ing annoying at this point as its a weekly occurrence now. Between this and other little things here and there I am very close to just getting rid of this car already....

Yeah it sucks. The only way for them to pull any faults is if you don't restart the car and drive it there in that state. I'm guessing it's the same cause as mine. They cleaned up some connector and said there were some paint over spray from the factory or something. Wasn't really detailed well on my workorder. I'm going in tomorrow to get my seat belt rattle fixed. I'll ask if they had any other complaints on this issue.

This exact same thing happened to me, but I was in stop-and-go traffic on the highway at the time.

I did notice that if I flipped into Sport or Sport+ mode, acceleration seemed proper though the light remained on with the subsystems "inoperative". Flipping back to Comfort mode returned it to horribly sluggish, like a five second acceleration delay. So I drove home in Sport and took it to the dealer the next day.

They're booked solid and it's Father's Day weekend and I have a bunch of driving I need to do; so I'm scheduled to have it all looked at this coming Wednesday. Will post a followup once I find out more.

2015 C400, ~6500 miles

Edit: I should've noted that, just like with the others, everything reset fine after turning the car off and back on again.

Okay, got the car back after a week. The short of it is that they saw the codes but couldn't reproduce the issue; so they did what tests they could, updated the software, and we'll just have to see if the issue has ironed itself out. I'll set myself a reminder to post again in a month if it doesn't misbehave.

From work order:

performed short test found codes u0416fd, u0401fe, and c10c800. performed guided test checked pin fit from connector F on m.e. to accelerator pedal, all pin fit is good. r&r front left carpet to inspect wire harness for damage as per guided test, no damage found. connected battery charger and performed software updates and scn coding on the following control modules transmission, motor electronics, electronic stability program, control unit powertrain, and fuel pump. cleared codes and had qc tech road test several miles, check out good at this time.

It has been a month without the issue repeating itself. If I have the problem again, I'll update. Otherwise, assume it's all good or I have a different car at that point.
