P31 V. ECU tunes
So my research so far indicates that having a P31 dev pack pretty much makes ECU tuning eg Kleemann stage 1 redundant.
While the claimed and measured HP increase of most tunes is around 50hp, the side by side tests and dynos show pretty parallel results between P31 and a leading tune.
Now I don't know if some of the advantages of aftermarket tunes like increased throttle opening is also translated in P31 or not.
So the question is: Should a P31 owner get an ECU tune?

If you are talking about JUST an ECU tune over the stock P31, then my answer would be no. However, any major upgrade beyond that will be a different story.

Tuned P31 showed a faster time of .79 seconds in 60-130mph run than the same P31 car before the tune...VBox verified.
Non P31 C63 is about .98 seconds slower in the same 60-130mph run...Vbox verified.
Same road, different driver, different day.

I have a better question. Can't we just get straight up a P31 flash from the dealer? forget about the internals and the 2 piece rotors and the LSD, I just want straight up the P31 tune/flash from factory, that is it!

Actually no more two piece rotor and the LSD is a la carte.

I would guess that the answer is "yes" it can be easily done. But, I think CARB would be the real hurdle.

The other issue beside CARB is warranty with a tuned non P31 car. The ECU has to be removed and opened, hence the dealer will know. Any driveline issues and you'll be in some "discussions" if MBZ will honor that part of the warranty.

I haven't ran a P31 before but I have seen an OE tuned C63 keep up with a P31 C63 neck and neck.
I was there during this run...

The P31 is pretty fast compared to a normal C63. I was skeptical at first though.

Ive talked to my SA and the lead tech at my dealership and both say this is not possible on non P31 cars. Disclaimer, this is from a dealer and as you know every dealer is different and most dont know much, but they said the only software updates they can do is the typical STAR stuff. Cracking open the ECU is a big no no.

My 2010 P31 has composite rotors but they are cast together and not bolted together. A different design from Brembo I think. I found the info:

I think this is false, as Propain and John both have faster 60-130 times than me. I think they are even, they do have better weather and 93 octane , but I'd guess on same day, same gas would be on the driver, so Propain would win
