Question about the P31 brakes
As i've mentioned (a few times...) i've ordered a c with the p31. I read however that the brakes don't really last on gravel nearly as well as steel discs. has anyone suffered from this fact? would appreciate input from members with p31 eho have driven on gravel roads. of course any other input is welcome as well
Cheers

Please clarify how you would relate brake wear to road surface in this situation. Are you talking about ESP constantly working the brakes?

The P31 brakes are "component" not "composite" (or however they describe them) which has confused a few. They have two-piece front rotors, but the rotor material (excluding the hub hat) is the same as far as I know, and should wear the same...or maye even infintessimally longer because supposedly the two-piece set-up dissipates heat better. I think.

The component brake design on a P31 is to transfer less heat to the. pads, calipers, slave cylinders and hence your brake fluid, thereby allowing more braking before the fluid starts to boil and becomes useless. Not really a worry on the street, but several track test of a base C63 ended up with the brake warning light coming on after several laps as the ESP (if left on) would keep kicking in and overheating the brakes prematurely.

Ok. i just talked to a couple of (reliable) people, one an employee at mercedds here in finland, and another friend. both said it could cause trouble. it worries me since i will ne driving on gravel roads quite a bit, not to mention the winter when they'll start spraying the sidewalks witj it and it spreads on the roads...

The one thing about Brembo, is that they always move forward never backwards. These brakes are better then the ones, they replaced. I believe that your worrying over nothing.
