Hit debris on freeway and cramped front bumper!
Coming back home after a dinner, hit some debris on the freeway (US101S near NASA for the bay area guys) while switching lanes. was quite a big pile on the road as far as i saw it. I came home to see (and pained) a cracked bumper. its only been a couple of hours and i have not shown it to a body shop yet but would like to know what your thoughts are! I have absolutely no idea as to what kind of repair is needed but i get a feeling that a bumper swap would be required. any thoughts)

Dude, that just happened to me like 2 months ago on 101N! You'll definitely need a new bumper. Just let your insurance take care of it. It'll be at least a $4k job to source parts and paint it. Get your suspension and alignment checked too. Federal Auto Body in Concord did a great job on my car. At least you didn't have a cf front lip. The guy also repaired my bumper to keep on hand in case anything else happens.

Sorry to hear. I hate dbags that dont secure their *****.My previous c230k ran through a effin tire that dropped of a dirty *** rusty truck. 6k to repair intercooler and supercharger. I know how you feel. Take a couple shots of patron and you'll be ok. Just minor bumper from the looks.

I don't think u need a new bumper, any good shop can repair & repaint the lower part of ur bumper no problem. I had a similar crack on my Lexus front lip, and I paid around 300$ total to repair.
P.S once repaired, don't hit that bumper at the same spot again cuz it will crack easily again.

thanks guys and thanks Coolbdphenom03 for pointing me towards the shop. looks like insurance might be the only way to go considering the high cost involved. luckily, my deductible of $250 isn't very high.
worst part of the incident is that i wasn't even driving when it happened. my brother in law was driving behind a SUV in the HOV lane and just as he swerved to the 2nd lane to overtake, there it was! the sack of debris.
i was planning to get a CF front lip. guess that has to wait now.

No, you can get the CF front lip and a good body shop would install it for free after they replaced your bumper. I mean if you're going to claim insurance anyway, get a new bumper and keep the fixed spare for a backup. Mark @ Federal Auto Body is holding onto mine at his shop.
Also, check your car thoroughly. I later found that the debris scratched my front, right rim and kicked up to scratch my right side skirt, too. Since the damage is so close to the fog light, check the wiring and bulb. Even though my fog lights still worked, Mark found that the wiring was crimped and a little messed up so they had to re-run the connectors, wire by wire.

Depends on which route you want to take - low cost option that's quicker, or a full replacement and keep the old, fixed bumper as a spare. I would imagine the former option to be completely out-of-pocket and the latter through insurance.

Going through insurance might increase your premium nxt year if you don't have comprehensive claims. Just my opinion though.

Also a good idea to let the insurance buy you a new bumper if you need a spare. But I believe repairing the damaged bumper will be at your own cost.

My buddy Mark hooked me up since I went through my insurance. My rates didn't go up, although I ended up switching to AAA for their aftermarket parts coverage AND they had a much better rate.

Did everyone here forget to tell the OP he has to have comprehensive otherwise rates go up?
Also OP is not covered under comprehensive if the DEBRIS was on the ground, that's your fault.
The debris had to be airborne and hit your bumper, That's what happend right?, OP
Your welcome.

But seriously, I was thinking about my situation here. My comprehensive deductible is 250$ and collision is 500$.from what i know, this should be covered under comprehensive. So, If I were to make changes, pay about 60$ more insurance and get comprehensive down to about 50, will i be ok? the way I look at it, its 110 bucks vs 250 bucks!

The route you choose really depends on how much you want to spend. And as Duane pointed out, this isn't an "at fault" incident so your insurance rate shouldn't go up if you decide to file it.
