Tail Pipe Soot

Ever since my car was new(only 500mi on it now) I've noticed an excessive amount of soot on the right tailpipe tips while the left side has hardly any.Oil level is ok,no cel's,car seems to run ok,although I'm taking it easy until after break in.Something causing rich fuel mixture on right side??Anyone else experiencing same problem??Thnx....

I have soot on each pipe, and have owned AMG since 2007, this is nothing to woory about. Even my C63 has more soot on one side then the other.

Exhaust will take the path of least resistance. It will leave where it can. For some reason, its just leaving out of the other ports more. Drive your car more, when you get to 2500 miles, then let us know and take a look.

I have had the same occurrence on both of my C63's. No worries. Just clean and polish them up every once in a while.

Wheel cleaner (ones that break up brake dust) works. You can use a bit of metal polish to work the shine back in the chrome. Alternatively you can paint the tips flat black and never worry about clean them.

Very common. A lot of people just leave it and think it looks good haha. Just polish it with mothers polish every once in a while and wipe it every time you wash it and it should keep the soot at bay.

Oh the jokes and imagery flashing through my head :p

I have soot all over the trunk and back-end of my car...but that's what happens when you run w/o cats.

Best way to get the soot off is actually WEIMANS Coooktop Cleaner/Polish.

Wipes right off, like lotion on your face.

I have the same issue with my 09 C63 with 50k. I have seen other amg's with more soot on one tip in comparison to the other. If you pull out the plugs you will also realize that the side with more soot, the spark plugs are also darker. This usually means that for whatever reason that bank is running richer than the other bank. I have had the dealer look into this several times and they always tell me everything is running fine. I guess it maybe an amg thing

i also found a really good way to get tough stains off of the tips is using wd-40 and steel wool. all the soot comes right off and it doesnt scratch your pipes! then i polish it with mothers

Thumbs up

Cleaning exhaust tips?...Ya don't need anything flash......just a bit of household kerosene soaked in a rag....and those black deposits will disappear....instantly.
Cheers, Pickles.

I clean the inside with an old wash mitt and the car soap I use to wash the car. Seems to clean up pretty easily. I get some burned on stuff on the outside of the tips that I clean up with Never-Dull wadding.

When using the steel wool, make sure it's 0000. As in four "aut". Available at any of the box stores.

Cheers !
