Does my 07 cls550 have a dvd in the top loading slot? Please help!
I read somewhere that some of the newer MB do not have dvd rom just a cd rom in the top loading slot. I've tried to make mp3 dvd with no luck, I've tried many way of making a mp3 disk with dvd-r... does it only read dvd+r. Can someone tell me if they got an mp3 dvd to work your cls?
Thanks, this is driving me nuts.

Oh ****, so we can burn a DVD-disc with mp3s? It gets annoying how the cd changer only goes upto 99 tracks on an mp3 disc. Everytime I wanted to hear something past track 99 I would have to take the cd out of the changer and put it into the top single slot.

I think all top slot can play DVD. Not the movie type though but burned MP3s on DVD. You can also create folders (Playlist) on your PC like Rocks, Classics, Favs etc, burn it and these folders will also appear on your nav screen for easy selection. I use RecordNow DX for burning. You should be able to put as many mp3s as dvd space would allows.

I have always used a mp3 (700mb) cd burned for playing my music, but after reading your posts i decided to try it on my 2006 cls55 AMG. I used a memorex dvd+r and it worked perfectly, so now i can use about 4.7 gigs of mp3's on my top slot.
The next real test was to burn another dvd mp3 cd Dual Layer +r (memorex)
It Worked!!!!, I Now have 8.5 gigs of space for mp3's. I did however decide to use folders on this disc as it would probably take forever to read the table of contents on the disc. if i put all of my music in the root folder and i wasnt sure what would happen if i had more than 999 mp3's in the root dvd directory. its important to note i used Nero to burn a mp3 dvd disc. it did ask me about multi session on my version i just said yes, and it burned layer 1 then layer 2
I cannot believe that 2007 model's would not be compatible. As a test i would suggest you try memorex dvd +r's Single layer (4.7)or dual layer (8.5)your choice) and try Nero mp3 dvd/cd for your tests. (Dont use built in windows cd data burning portion as it didnt work for me . i Had to use Nero)
I know when it loades the dvd info in it says compact disc but it reads the dvd fine.

Hmmm...
Im sure you told it to make a mp3 disc compilation right ? did it ask you any questions ? i closed the session so i could not add any more files to the disc. Also when i burnt the 4.7 dvd i told it to burn at a slower rate like 4x, and when i burnt the DL disc my only option was 2.4 give that a try and also try changing your media manufacturer. Memorex is what i used.
It could be all in the original post that 2007 doesnt have a dvd rom. But i dont know why they would do that. since dvd audio was supposed to be the next "thing"
give it a try everyone and post your results.

I would assume that some of our command head units don't have a DVD rom and is only a CD rom drive. Can anyone confirm this ?
Thanks

i didnt get to read all the post in this thread, but...did you use get into the engineer menu and do all that stuff? Assuming you got the dvd/video capability on your headunit. I have a US version headunit, but i swapped it out with an European CLS headunit(which has a "video" button on the unit) and all i did was find the code for engineer menu and just went in and set it up. hope that made some sense and help a lil

How many mp3's did you have in the root? also did you try a "name" brand dvd disc? what program did you use to burn the disc?

I had about 500 in the root and also created a couple of folders for albums. I only use TDK discs since that's what Costco usually has on sale. They're good quality, so don't think the disc is the issue. I have Nero 6 and another program called Drag'n Drop that came with my Vaio that both lead to "cd error" messages.
Maybe later, I'll try a simple burn with a just a few songs, but as someone else posted above, I tried a standard DVD to see if I could hear the audio, and got "cd error" also.
Thanks for any input.

All my tests for my 2007 550 were conducted using Nero and only two mp3 tracks on each disc. I've closed the session as well. I used fuji and verbatim discs. I've tried dvd-r and dvd+r at 4X write speed. All tests resulted in "cd error".
Also, I tried cd-r and they work fine. I'm positive that I don't have a dvd-rom.

btw for those of you who do have dvd drives everytime i used vista or xp to burn my disc it never worked for me. Forget wma's on the disc, and i always had my mp3's sampled at 192k or higher.
I also had some problems with some of the mp3 file names.
i had too many underscore's and nero would rename the mp3's based on the 8.3 or redbook rules i forgot.
I inquired about this with AMG, lets see what their techs say.

I have the same problem.
Tried to burn DVD mp3 files on DVD+R by Nero, but not working on my comand player.
500 files on ROOT and some folders on my disc.
When i burn MP3 files on CD-R discs, its works fine.
Anybody can help me?????

Hi all,
I have a 2007 CLS (Euro) and it plays DVDs with MP3s fine - i have over 4 gigs of tunes split into album folders on it. You can't put the DVD in the 6-disc CD changer slot though - that doesn't work (you can only put CDRs in there).
On the Comand when you press AUDIO with a DVD loaded you get the choice of
*Radio
*MP3
*CD
I know this sounds stupid but have you checked you definately loaded the DVD the right way up? My DVDs are completely unmarked and if i dont write on the top of them they look the same both sides so you can load it the wrong way (esp if you load it in the dark ) - and then it comes up with an error on the screen.

i believe in the euro version of the command they have a VIDEO button in the place of our SAT button, so naturally you would need to have the dvd drive in the command. I thought of buying one on ebay but was uncertain as to what would happen to my SAT. Anyone know?

Does anyone here know what the price for NAV-TV is? Also, if anyone has had this done, how did you like it? I am interested in watching some movies while the wife shops.
