My W212 small upgrade (DIY)
I would like to share my project in upgrading or changing some parts of my W212.
I was reading a lot of forums to collect most of the information, and decide to put it in one thread.
I hope this will help people planning to do a similar upgrade.
1- Europe Center console:
I got some scratches on my centre console (I don't like the rubber paint used it gets scratches very easy).
I have ordered 2 parts:
- Centre console cover (rubber black): A2046807607
- Centre console roller (rubber black): A2046800107
I also ordered this model:
- Centre console cover (beige): A2076800107 8R78
- Centre console roller (Black Ash wood): A2076802107
To install DIY:
DIY forum:
https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...e-removal.html
2- Shift knob:
I have pack P1 on my car with black ash wood trim, but the knob is in metal leather. My transmission is Manual 6 speed but I like a knob in black ash from an automatic W207. The automatic knob does not feet the manual speed, for this reason I will need to mix parts from the old and the new knob.
This is the knob that I like to install:
to do that, you need to heat first the emblem with hairdryer, and then remove the Emblem as in the pictures
3- Comfort box:
You can add the Comfort box in the rear of the trunk which I found useful for everyday use.
Part number: A2126800010
The install is very easy and fast, you need to plug first the rear part then close the 2 locks in the front.
4- Backup view camera:
I’m expecting a difficult installation.
It seems that mercedes use the same Modulator and camera for couple of here models:
W212 E class / W207 E class coupe / W204 C class.
So i bought on ebay for my car W212 E class:
Trunk plastic handle bracket: A2127400993 (for W212, you need to make the hole yourself for the camera)
Modulator: A2128270006 (for W212)
Camera: A2078200897 (for W207)
Camera to Modulator wiring harness: A2044404808 (W204)
Modulator to comand wiring harness: A2044404908 (W204)
DIY install:
4- Power folding mirror:
Power folding mirror part number: A2128100616
Mirror switch: A2129056100
Door clips (9 pieces): A0009918698
Door rivet (1 piece): A0009917940
Useful DIY links, which I will follow to make the install:
- Door switch replacement (you need to remove all the panel):
https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...-replaced.html
- Folding mirror replacement (DIY for W204, sorry didn't find something for W212 but should be the same)
https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...up-inside.html
5-Front grill:
My car comes with luxury grill, but I like 2 other models:
The grill with the star:
Then I bought the OEM Distronic grill which I found nicer: A2128800383
I did change the traditional hood star with flat bonnet
Part number: A2048170616
6-steering weehl swap:
I have swaped my original w212 steering wheel with a W166 AMG steering wheel
steering wheel Paddle Shifters where removed because I have a manual gear. I have covered the left part with slef made plastic.
7-Tablet headrest:
I decided to add 2 headrest Tablet Playbook to my car.
I bought from ebay:
- 2 x Playbook 64 GB.
I mixed 2 different parts of tablet headrest mount to avoid removing the headrest and having the tablet at a small distance from the headrest:
- 2 eelo Universal Tablet PC Headrest Mount. (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41rJ2wIxBxL.jpg)
- 2 Tuff-Luv Universal headrest mount. (http://guideimg.alibaba.com/images/s...ts_2014742.jpg)
- 2 x Playbook Hard Shell/Case Black (it will be used to fix the tablet to the headrest mount).
- 2 x PLAYBOOK SLIPCASE COVER BLACK (to store the 2 playbook when leaving the car).
- 1 x Blackberry Playbook Premium micro USB Car Charger (1.8A for fast charging with 2 outputs).
- 1 x Micro usb to usb cable.
- 2 x Blackberry Premium Headset.
- 1x Blackberry Remote Stereo Gateway Bluetooth (to stream music to car aux).
- Remote media player for playbook application (to control the playbook from my phone).
I'm still looking for a better solution to watch the same video on both Playbook at the same time + streaming the sound to the head unit (specially when playing music).
8-Diver accessory:
AMG Pedal Set W212 Manual
OEM Rim Locks
Part number: B66470155
OEM Mercedes Flat cap star wheel cover
Mercedes Document Wallet
Mercedes Paper Holder
Seat Belt Buckle
Amg Key chain

no off corse you need to replace the mirrors + switch. Then you can fold the mirrors with the switch button. To fold the mirrors with the car key you need to encode the car software with MB. I think it will cost a bit of money. For me I will only use the switch button.

I cannot find the power folding mirror with that part number. I also called into the dealer and confirmed that it doesnt exist. He said that I must order the motor and the cover separate. Is this correct?

I bought it from ebay, this is the only part number that I found written on the folding mirrors. It's true you can order the motor and the cover and installed on your old mirrors.

Let's say that I was a bit lucky, the folding mirrors on ebay are around 500 euro.
but I payed less:
Power folding mirror (from Germany, used in very good condition removed from 2012 car model): 250euro+shipping
Mirror switch (from Germany, used in very good condition like new also removed from 2012 car model): 55 euro + shipping
Door clips (from US 9 pieces new):$2.70 per piece
Door rivet (from US, 1 piece new):$3.00 per piece
PS: I have also asked an US dealer about the folding mirror part number and he also told me that it is a wrong part number. I'm not sure why he don't find the number, I will say that MB us models come without power folding mirror and that model I bought is an European, maybe this is the raison.

US cars do not come with PF Mirrors. Like it was stated in an earlier post you will need to swap out the mirrors for a set of non-US mirrors or install the PF frames on your car's present mirrors.
either way you need the switch block and potentially the door modules. To get the car to auto close the mirrors like on the Non-US cars and the C-class, you will need to get your datacard changed at MB to include that option and get MB to set your car up on their server to include that option so that their server will not remove that options whenever you get any software and firmware coding done.
I found the MB instructions for removing the switch block and it calls for a tool to do it without removing the door panel. Or you can remove the door panel. I am waiting to figure out which way I want to go to remove and replace the switch block in my car LOL!

I have a 2014 E350 and the comfort box is the only thing I don't have that I wish I did. I was wondering where you found the box to purchase. I found two on ebay currently and honestly do not even know what they retail for. When I asked in parts, I can get the part for almost cost, but I want to try and find one for less. It's fairly simple to install?

Hi,
I bought it from ebay Germany. I won the bid for 45 euro + postage fee 45 euro.
they still show up on ebay some time, they are usually sold around 100 euro. They are compatible with the S class, C class, and E class.
Part number: A2126800010

you sure are changing out a lot of stuff. I thought I was doing a lot. You make me look like a beginner. Everything looks great. Hope we see what it looks like once you install them.
