Bluetooth Phone Problems

I have a 2011 E63, and yesterday when using my phone through the bluetooth in the car, the audio was very choppy, almost like a weak cell signal but had full bars. When I would then switch the phone call over to the phone itself, perfect quality. I then switched back to bluetooth and the same choppiness, so bad that you cannot understand any communication. I turned off bluetooth on the phone and reconnected, same. Then I deactivated bluetooth on the car and reconnected, same. At this point, the bluetooth phone is useless. I have cycled the car on and off several times, all with the same result.

Any pointers on what to do from here? Anyone else had this problem? Thanks!

Haven't had that problem on a consistent basis myself. Do you have another BT phone to test it would with so you can determine if it is the car or the original phone?

also, you can go to the dealer and tell them what happened and you might get a free software upgrade.

It would only be free if the car still has warranty. Otherwise you will need to pay for labor.

OP, It is likely a software issue, I've seen it before. It could also be a hardware issue, bad antenna, bad antenna amplifier ect. but more likely a software issue.

I am having the same problem you are describing in my 2014 E350. Phone calls work great, music is having a tough time on newer iPhones.

Were you able to solve your problem?

Went to the dealer earlier today and they adjusted the Bluetooth and transmission volume levels in the settings menu. For iPhone 6s/7 the tech said set both to "-2". Seemed to work better after making the adjustment.

Can you recall the exact directory of these settings? I can't find them (or decipher the settings from the names) on my 2010 w212

There is also a firmware upgrade for bluetooth. Had mine done a couple years ago and it was much better afterwards.

I tried going that route and the dealer said there is no update for it after checking it during a service. This was in 2018.

I have not asked or given them the specific version number of the update and just asked for a command update due to my Bluetooth problems. Can't even make a phone call without disconnecting. Used to have and Android, then iPhone 7 and now 11. They all act the same.

Do you happen to know what the bt contact plate setting is for? It was selected as installed on mine and today I changed it to not installed after seeing other people's settings (I probably need to back this up with the thread that I'm referring to. It was on a different discussion)

Try another dealer. There are comand updates that should fix the bluetooth issues. Usually though they won't do a comand update unless you're having specific problems and the updates also fixes things like Sirius radio cutting out once in a while too. No issues with mine. I assume you already did the basics of deleting the one in comand and on your phone, restarting the phone and try the pairing again?
