***MGP Caliper Covers TEST PILOT required for GL or R series ***

Hi guys, I have been speaking with Mike at MGP Caliper Covers looking for a set of covers for my 2008 GL500 which is the same as the US badged GL550. Mike has also informed me that the R Series also shares the same calipers.

Heres the deal...

Mike has offered a free set of MGP Caliper Covers for your GL or R if you are willing to spare an 1 1/2 of your time to let them measure up your calipers so others like me across the ponds are able to use such a great product.

MGP is located in San Diego.

Mike can be contacted at...

tech@calipercovers.com

The web site is here...
www.calipercovers.com

Mike, I really appreciate the help and info so far and thanks for the genuine offer, it is much appreciated and hopefully someone takes up this offer and opportunity

I don't have the GL 550, but do have a GL320 right in San Diego. Don't know if that qualifies.

Hi there mate, ill send you a PM. Hopefully someone here can confirm if the GL320 & GL550 share the same size calipers front and rear.

If they do then I would think this offer from MGP is yours.

If the Part numbers are the same then I would think all should be good.

...okay I managed to get some photos with the iphone of the front right (my drivers side on the GL500, your passenger side on the GL550) and rear right. The part number label is located behind the caliper and the rear label is located on the bottom of the caliper, easy to see.

First photo is of the part number for the Front Caliper,

...and heres the photo of the part number for the right rear,

Your photo looks more like a serial number than a part number. Mine is different.

I spoke with my technician, and he looked up the brake pad parts. They are the same for GL320 and 550.

Let me know what you would like to do?

Just spoke to a local dealer. He said they are the same for GL320 and 550. He also said that number is not a part number.

Please advise.

...thanks for doing that. Mike is going to send me a RAW right set that I am going to try and test fit from an ML350 which looks like might crossover. As far as the labels on the calipers are concerned they are probably scanned to identify a part number? not sure how MB labels/codes work. If anyone can help out here that would be great.

Could your dealer confirm if the 08 GL320 and 08 GL550 share the same caliper part numbers? You would assume so if they share the same pad part numbers wouldn't you??

...give Mike a call. It appears they already have part number 23164 that suits. I have ordered a custom set and should have them here in a few weeks. I will fit them off and take some photos and post them up on my other thread.

...just wanted to share and update the thread. The MGP caliper covers arrived today and installed them. Took less than an hour with the factory jack and wheel brace. Great product and a very straight forward simple install. Ill post some better clean pics on my pic thread after a good wash and some better weather.
