New CPO GL 450

Greetings. New member and new MB owner. Just bought a 2013 CPO GL 450. First ever MB and was funded in part by the VW TDI scandal / buyback. Will be my wife's SUV. With 3 grandkids we looked around at 7 passenger SUVs. Tried out the MDX, Q7, X5 also. The MDX was a close second but the wife really loved the way the GL drove and looked. I was either way on it, the 2015 CPO MDX was less expensive and got better MPG but fit / finish / materials were not the same as the GL.

Its pretty basic configuration, Black with Beige MB-TX, PO-1 package, Parktronic, Trailer hitch, Eucalyptus, Illuminated running boards, Keyless-go, Lane Tracking Package. No lighting package which was a bummer (and a cardinal sin from reading on these forums) but its for the wife and she only drives about 8K per year and very little at night

CPO warranty is good until 7/18. It has 27,200 miles on it and we paid $40,000 which I think is a pretty good price. It was $43,900 until last week when they dropped it as part of an end of month/year clearance. Originally was their lot (Viti in RI) in August at $49.9K. Salesman thinks the beige interior was one of the reasons it wasnt selling. Funny the MDX we looked at was same color combo and also had been on the lot for a while. Salesman said everyone wants Black/Black.

Biggest concern going forward is keeping it clean, especially here in Mass. Next choice is what color all weather mats to get. MB offers Black and Mocha. WeatherTech also offers Tan.

A gaggle of MB's
Lighter mats pick up heel marks - makes black All-Weather mats the best choice..

Extended CPO warranty?

Thanks.

Next question is regarding extended CPO warranty. I know there are number of threads on this. I figure the GL wil have 40K miles on it by the time the CPO warranty ends (7/18). Dealer is offering the 2 year at $3495. I'm thinking I wait until I get closer to the CPO date and see how the GL has been with respect to any issues. 40K miles seems awfully low to be having to extend the warranty.

There are many owners who wait till right before CPO expires - to decide if they will be keeping or not - and based on reliability on their rig up to that point - whether to choose to invest in added warranty or not.

So you know - after 30 days from purchase date - MB "MSRP" for that warranty goes up 15% surcharge - dealer cost on that warranty goes up 5%.

With "low" interest rates at the moment - others can choose to add the warranty to their purcahsed/finance amount - if you sell/trade before using that extended warranty - it is refundable 100%.

Take a look around this forum. Some very good info on pricing re:warranties. I got a silly quote for my GL350, and ended up purchasing for
much less from one of the recomemdations on this site.

Thanks. from what i gather quickly looking at the threads on this forum, the extended CPO warranty can be purchased from any authorized MB dealer. What i noticed yesterday during the sales transaction at the dealer was the 2 year ELW for my CPO was listed at $3795 with the business manager yet the salesman had quoted me $3495 last week. I didnt say anything other than to decline bu clearly a money maker for them especially since they "claim" to have lost money on my sale. Which might be true since i had a friend look at the Manneheim auto auction sales from a few months ago and 2013 GL450 with low miles in outstanding condition were going for $40 to $41K.

also I read that the cost to the dealer goes up 5% and to the consumer 15% after the 30 days. so doesnt that suggest you can knock 10% right off the top when negotiating after 30 days? Thanks for everyone's help.

Take a look at this.
It should give you a general idea of prices, it helped me a lot. (Not sure if CPO designation changes pricing, but would not think it should).

The ELW is available for owners before the original warranty ends. Once CPOed, it becomes unlimited miles and you can add up to 2 additional years. So it is somewhat equivalent to the 7/100k ELW in the link you shared. With the typical 12k/year, you won't hit the limit. But it taken on vacation trips regularly, I would think it is closer to 15k/year which is a tad over 100k.

CPO add an additional year to the original 4 years with unlimited miles. You can add up to 2 additional years.

Nav traffic

Dumb question. First road trip today to Boston and used the Nav (and Google Maps on the IPhone to compare routes/updates). The MB Nav preformed very well, very similar to Google Maps, updated for traffic jams and rerouted us a number of times. Is this a function of Sirius Traffic and the Nav? As I understand it the CPO comes with a 3 month trial of Sirius. But Sirius was working about a month and a half ago when we first went for a test drive. So did the previous owner forget to cancel? Don't really need the Sirius radio stations but traffic updating the Nav is a must (yes I could use the phone but much nicer to have it updated on the dash vice phone). Thanks
