Navigation announcements
Switching navigation announcements off/on
To switch off: press the button during an announcement.
You will briefly see the message: The guidance instructions have been muted.
To switch on: press the COMAND controller.
Select in the navigation system menu bar by turning the COMAND controller and press to confirm.
COMAND Online automatically switches the navigation announcements back on when:
- it receives RDS-TMC traffic reports during dynamic route guidance and recalculates the route accordingly more.
- you calculate a new route
- you switch COMAND Online on again or start the engine.
Reducing the volume during a navigation announcement
The volume of an active audio or video source can be automatically reduced during a navigation announcement.
Select Navi in the main function bar by sliding and turning the COMAND controller and press to confirm.
Select Audio fadeout and press to confirm.
The function is switched on or off , depending on the previous status.

Here's the simple method:
Wait until she starts talking (while she is talking), press .
Or if you are too slow to press while she is talking:
Press the Linguatronic button and when requested say: "Guidance instructions off".
She will then confirm it is off!
Yes it drives me crazy too...

I believe if you use the voice control to turn it off, you can do it at any time (not just when she's speaking). At least I believe that's how it is on the older version of Linguatronic on my car.

I lowered the volume for the voice guidance, but I can't seem to find a way to shut the traffic announcements off. It never fails, it always mutes my radio right when I really want to hear what is going on to tell me for the 3rd time that there is traffic congestion where I am not going. It is odd because the voice guidance is set to not fade out my radio but I can't do the same for traffic. Anyone have any success with this?

Is there a way to permanently turn off the voice guidance by default -- it is very annoying and it always seems way loder tan what I had been listening to.

Fade out for voice guidance lowers the volume on the radio so you can hear the directions. I don't use it, and I turn the volume down on the directions when I know where I am going. This would be just fine for me with traffic, but unfortunately it doesn't work that way. Traffic updates provide value, just looking at the map would be good enough for me. Interrupting what I am listening to repeatedly with the same information is completely annoying.

If you lower the volume while an announcement is ongoing, then the voice guidance volume will remain low until you change it back.

I used to think that our Maserati had illogical controls of the Navi, etc. The Merc has been driving us crazy with this voice giving directions usually for a wrong way to get anywhere. I'll try the mute button next time. I'm just afraid that it will also mute the music we are listening to.
Let's see what happens.
