"Protecting car paint" can mean several things. Are you concerned about UV effect? If you live in Saudi Arabia that might be a major concern. Are you talking about protection from rocks and chips to the paint? If you go off road a lot that might be an important consideration. Or are you concerned about paint protection in the usual sense, which is done simply by wax and sealants?

I have no experience with the 3M coatings you are asking about but I think they are suppose to be fairly expensive and must be put on with extreme care or you will have a mess on your hands. That kind of protection should be perfect for protecting the paint against things like chips and scratches but if you don't like the looks or shine of the paint you are stuck. I would not use it because I don't drive off road or where there are such dangers, at least not enough to worry about.

If your concern is the paint itself for water beading and appearance, I have found that my ML Diamond White paint is best served with an application of Sonax Net Polymer Shield (a sealant) every six months and a "topper" or "booster" spray of Sonax Brilliant Shine about every second or third wash. The water beading is great and lasts and lasts. The bonus is that dust and minor road grime does not attach to the paint and what does is easily removed.

Sonax is a German brand and makes some great stuff but I guess the bottom line is that it all depends what kind of "protection" you are looking for your paint.

Thanks for your comment. I'm more interested in looks the wrap gives, I love the matte finish. But i do also want to protect my paint. My previous car had so much scratches all around caused by rocks and chips. So i would keep the wrap on for 2-3 years and take it off before I sell my car but i want to know if it will leave any marks later on.

You can get satin clear bra material, I had it on my matte coupe. It would probably achieve most of what you've set out to accomplish.

ML 350 Bluetech 2013 Loving it!
Why would you rap the car so the new owner of your second hand car enjoys it ! Why not enjoy it yourself.Get out of protecting the car for the new owner. They buy second hand they get second hand.
I hate i when people cover car seats/save original car mats etc so it will sell well. Come on it is for your enjoyment not theirs !

I'm doing this mainly for looks first + it protects the original paint, and its not for the second owner. I'm just one of those who like to keep their cars clean.

Let me know how it goes. My '14 F15 X5 50i is currently in the shop getting wrapped in Satin Chrome for the same reasons you stated (protection and looks nicer) .
