Oil usage in an R350

What is normal oil usage in an r350 with about 110000 miles?

My (350 gas engine)oil level stays at or near the full mark for 10000 mi. In that 10000 mi span I change filters 2-3 times @ $9 ea and never add oil.

Change filters 2 times in 10,000 Miles? That seems way OCD excessive!

Manual says filter/oil @10,OOO miles.

I am a little overboard on maintenance but.......retired , plenty of time so why not treat it well. Its been a very good vehicle . An excellent ride!! Hopefully it'll last for many years.

for gas you should rarely need to top up
For diesel 1 -2 liters between oil changes is to be expected.

@ghenry...there is no reason to do this.... your time and money would be better spent elsewhere! Buy flowers for your wife and kiss her!

Exactly! The filters are designed to work at least as long as the oil, and usually longer.

Well from the newest research this is not necessarily true. The oil technologies are renovating every day but filters don't improve once the engine is designed. Remember this M272 engine is introduced in 2004 so it was probably designed in the 19th century or around 2000. And the filter for M272 is the same as the one for M112 which was introduced in 1998, probably designed in mid 1990s.

Basically for most cars if synthetic oil is used then the oil can last at least 15-20k miles(some veterans says military vehicles use oil even longer than this) but filters don't last that long especially if vehicle is mostly driven in city.

I'd like to see your sources for this "new research". That might be true for diesel engines, but I don't think gas engines from MB should have that much particulate and dirt in the oil to clog a filter.
