02 vs 05 s600 brake calipers

On European cars, 4 pot calipers and 345mm discs were fitted up to 2002. 8 pot calipers and 360 discs were fitted thereafter (same as S55 kompresser).
On US, Japan and Australian cars, I believe the 4 x 345 brake were fitted to all models.

I just went thru this with the S430.
The early S430 cars have dual-piston calipers and vented disks on the rear. At the end of the 2002 model year, the rear brakes changed to single-piston sliding calipers and smaller solid disks.
But - either brake set-up will fit on the rear of any W220 or S500, if you change the entire set on both sides. This sorta makes the puzzling application listings make sense.
I suspect the S600 set-up is similar - as long as you use the complete set, either will probably fit any W220 S600.

Ok, thank you. I just wanted to make sure the 02's wouldnt be a downgrade of any kind, or cause any fitment issues.
I appreciate the reply.
Im assuming then the brake pads would work across all years as well? Those are having the same conflicting compatibility in the listings.

I didn't think to compare the brake pads when I switched the brakes - but I suspect that you will need the pads that match the calipers.

"On the rears they are different (smaller) on 00-02 models than on 03-06 models."
Perhaps the S600 is different - but on the S430/S500, the earlier brakes have bigger disks and calipers.

I was starting to wonder if you both were posting on the Girly TT handle, lol. It'll be much less confusing since you both have accounts.

I have a hard time feeling sorry for you after you told me what you paid for it, lol. I think you'll still be way better off than what I bought mine for after you get everything fixed, though.

I hear ya. Like my dad's Harley he bought @ Copart. By the time he had it together he literally could have bought a new one for about the same money, lol. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you just learn a lot.
