Price for 2015 S63 <20K miles

Hello all,

I am contemplating on acquiring a used s63. I have been looking at the listed price on autotrader, cars.com, etc and the prices various sometimes +$10K. What is a good buying price for one of these puppies? Fully loaded msrp $171K.

MB37, I looked up a 2015 S63 on the manheim auction reports. The average price is ranging from 85-90k wholesale. There were some a little less, and one a little more.

BTW, can I just say wow on how much these cars have depreciated in just one year? Around 50% and still falling!

The reason this depreciation is a little higher on the S63's is that the market for this car is extremely small. Small demand...but most would love it, but will not pay the higher price for the bigger engine.

MB37, try hard to get a good price on one if you decide to move on it, because the value will continue to depreciate. Now, if you intend on keeping it a long time, it won't really matter.

Also, for people that purchase Used / CPO, the cost of upkeep when not with a CPO is tremendous. Even with CPO, brakes are quite costly vs. S550....

FYI It's a 2 year depreciation, not one but unfortunately all AMG's have a lower residual than non-AMG models.

Yes, AMG models have lower residuals. This is due to the lack of demand. The demand fuels the value of the car. The demand on these cars are highest for the S550, not the AMG models of this car.

The one I am looking at is not CPO, and was a trade-in. Inside looks great, and tires will need to be replaced. For sale for $100K, the msrp is 173K with the carbon fiber option. The bottom looks a bit scuffs, and I have read that the carbon fibers cannot be satisfactorily repaired. :-( A few other front bottom scratched that can probably be repainted if CPOed. If CPO is only for one more year (miles will not matter in my case), is there more value to getting a third party warranty like Endurance or Warranty Direct?

BTW, this car was a trade-in by a real estate developer who wanted a F350 truck. The inspection sticker for the s63 had not been renewed since January 2016.

MB37, an alternative warranty will only be beneficial if you intend on keeping this car for a long time. These warranties are quite expensive. Aftermarket warranty to add just one year to that car may run you near $3k. The MB CPO warranty is really a bargain compared to aftermarket prices. If this car is a 2015 with 17k miles, it seems like you may have 2-3 years left, and 33k miles on your original warranty. Will you keep it a long time? If not, its a waste of your money.

I plan to keep it for long. It was put into service on 1/14/15, so it looks like I have 2 years left. Would 95K be a reasonable offer since it is highly optioned?

They are also only giving me $37K for my 13' 750LI with 29K miles. Fully optioned too except for rear entertainment.

I would negotiate them to CPO the car, it adds to the value if you were to resell it on your own, especially if you plan on keeping the car. In addition to the CPO, you can add 2 more years Unlimited millage for about 4K. With over 100+ computers controlling everything. So 7 years Unlimited Millage for around 4K in my book is worth it.

Nice ride is right. For $4k, you can have some peace of mind for 7yrs/unlimited miles. Not bad. It they CPO it, be prepared for the cost of your car being increased, but it will be a better car for you. I've been told, typical cost to CPO a S550 is around $2k, and then add the cost of the CPO warranty after that. Now the cost to CPO a S63 is probably higher I would think. The brakes and rotors alone are several thousand to replace both all around.

Yup, you are 100% correct. He can negotiate to have the car CPO'd, the dealer can and will usually work with you if he wants to move the car. I believe one of the reasons no one really wants the 63 is because of the high maintenance. Usually the 63 is also beat on a bit more than an S500. You are correct on brakes and rotors, possibly why they may not want to certify it......

I would probably clarify this a little bit. Demand, as in desire, is higher on AMG's than non-AMG's.

Demographically, AMG buyers are younger and have higher income. They are more inclined to purchase these cars that cost quite a bit more.

Secondary buyers typically are more value-conscious and have no taste for risky purchases. Just like the V12's, AMG's spells "pricey" on repairs and maintenance (just check on the cost of brake rotors).

MB makes up for that by very unattractive leases (high MF and low residuals).

I forget that brakes are not covered under warranty like BMW. The 63 was traded at a Ford dealer, and the Ford dealer is part of a large auto group that also owns a couple of MB dealers; the 63 is scheduled to be delivered to MB. I think the sales person wants to sell it non cpo for $100K before it goes to MB to get cerified. It has one open recall (engine stall).

For sure, it needs new tires and very slightly pulls to the right (will need alignment). One rim was curbed rash and will be fixed.

If you can get them to CPO it, all of the above will be covered..... and then some....

S550
I just sold my 2014 S63 AMG. Mine was great, had no problems, but one thing that I think hurts the residual on these is the cost of repair vs S550. For example, rear brakes and rotors for 2-3x the price on S63 vs S550. I loved the look and the way it drove, but I can't say that I would want to own one of these once the CPO is over. I think maintenance is in a completely different league vs S550 at that point.

Thanks for the reality check. I guess you need a fat wallet to retire on one of these s63 . . . one of which I don't think I have yet. This is a nice discussion, and it flushes out some of the my myths about the s63.
