Is the replacement CPS unit any more reliable than the original? How long can it be expected to last before I have to worry about replacing?
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Great DIY.
I payed about 450USD some years ago for chance by my w220.
The car shut down itself while at traffic light.

thanks again Shardul for posting this, i found it really helpful!!
on my reciept it says 003-153-28-28
i was worried about the screw falling out too, so i did this and put a thin piece of tape around the screw
so my CEL will just go away?
and if anyone needs a spare scrww the part # for that is 910142-006001
Good DIY! Thanks a lot!!!
Replaced my sensor today, damn is it tight in there. Took about 4 hours from start to finish including the occasional break LOL big hands dont help!, killed 3 bees in the process too, pos' kept comming out fo no where!.. Worse part is getting the socket in the tiny space and making sure the screw doesnt fall... will never do it again myself haha

You'll know when you can't start your car. Usually after the car gets warm. It cranks and cranks and cranks then it doesn't turn on. After it cools down it will start up just fine. Sometimes the CEL will come on, usually for the CPS and O2 sensors 1 in banks 1 and 2. It will be a soft code so it will go off after 3 cycles if your car continues to start up just fine. It will progressively get worse.

My props to this post, just replaced sensor as instructed after car had same conditions and cel code. My car is Kleemann supercharged c55, all the extra hoses from the sc made it that much more difficult to wiggle in and get to the part. Word of advice, if u have big hands, have a friend with smaller hands help u out!

Sl55 AMG
I would like to throw out a question, I replaced the sensor in my SL55. It ran like new for a couple of days then the P0355 came back. So what else am I looking at? The harness and brain?
To rule out the hall sense back to the brain is there a spot where I can measure continunity/resistance of the sensor at input the CM?
Thank you.

Sl55 AMG
When I did mine
For my 04 SL per the dealership parts guy (and searching on the web) is it a dealer item. Per the parts man after 05 the connector and pins became an assembly. So just a cut and a couple of crimps and your done. Before that you could just buy the pins, But I bought the housing, pins from them and did it myself. Lucky I bought the housing too, they went crazy with epoxy and sealant on and in the connector. I think that is why they took the "assembly" approach going forward.

You will have to squeeze the connecter in the right spot and it will lift up the lil locking clip that grabs the bump on the sensor shown below. The lil bump on the bottom/right is where it is locking on. You have to squeeze just above this and it should unlock. Try wiggling it a bit as you try to pull it out as they can be a lil sticky from years in the heat behind the motor.

Seems MB changed the PN at some point. I found this for the sensor.
I'm ordering one now and gonna keep the old one in the trunk as a spare. Gives me a good excuse to tinker with it again. I also added some leather care stuff to get me the free shipping. I couldn't find a better price after a few min searching online for the sensor. The place linked earlier in the thread is def the place to use.

Thanks a million for your reply BBBSS. I finally got it. I pressed down on the top end of the clip to lift it over the bump on the sensor.

Now let's just hope I can get my fat hand down there to undo the connector when my sensor shows up.
