Great news!! Happy to hear that you figured it out. I've taken the precaution of having an extra CPS in my glove box just in case it goes out again...you may want to do the same since the part is relatively cheap.

I think the sensor was going bad a long time ago and didn't deliver 100% correct data to the ME. It feels like I gained 150 more HP with the brand new sensor. I know that if camshaft and crankshaft position sensor doesn't work properly the ignition timing shifts for reduced power but that much? Holy moly!!!

Read fault codes out. There are 600 generic OBD fault codes that trigger the CEL (and that could mean anything). For that you don't need a Star Diagnosis since it's an OBD fault code.

I changed my CPS last week and it really wasn't that difficult. Remove the mass air flow sensor and the elbow on the V6, and some of the vacuum hoses and you can get to it. I did lay some foam over the engine and had some bags of earth piled in front of the car so I could rest my feet on. I was able to lie over the engine and with 2 hands, and various ratchet extensions and flex joint was able to remove it. The idea of using tissue to keep the torx screw snug in the socket when installing was great. Cleaned the connector while I was at it.

However, it did not fix the problem
Early symptoms: Difficulty starting cold
Next symptoms: Difficulty starting hot, wait 5 minutes.. then restart.
changed fuel filter and CPS(Blue streek-SMP)
then: Stalling on highway, easy restart on this one occasion.
Then : Stalling again, no restart until longer wait (4 hours till I got tow truck, maybe it would have fixed itself sooner) I did not want to drive car home, had it towed to indy shop (Joe Bassile Montreal) but in the end they said that intermittent is hard to fix, chances that its a bad replacement CPS was remote. Try changing fuel pump but again risky to waste money. Said wait till you have problems again then fiddle with the processor box and wire to see if that gets it going again.

any ideas?

Awe crap.. Loved this car!

Did you check your Fuel Pump Relay? I stalled on the fwy as well and had to wait 15 minutes to turn the car back on, only for it to stall another 10 minutes later. Changed CPS and stalled again. Turns out it was the fuel pump relay.

I use a 3 foot extension with a couple of swivels to get out the screw on the CLS. I'm not sure what the location is on the E55 by comparison. It's very annoying.

I replaced the "new" CPS with an the "OEM" sourced part from RM European. Made in Germany.. Seems to have solved the problem. Damn bad aftermarket parts. Will drive it more over the next days.

How did that happen, was the wrong socket used? Badly stripped? It shouldn't even be on that tight.

Normally the solution would be to use a square bit, but that wouldn't work on this bolt. There is no way to get vise grips or drill into it there.

I know this is an old post but it seemed my pic of the CPS LOCATION & validation of what a tight space ( even with my small hands) fit with this thread.

A day & 1/2 to find the hidden sensor. Then 2 hours wrenching to break the screw ( cuz I couldn’t turn my hands). Other than that it cost me $42.00 for OEM SENSOR from Amazon.

Great thread to bookmark and as well a reminder to myself to keep a CPMS in the car in the event it fails again. Almost left me stranded twice until I brought it to my mechanic.
