MotorTrend Takes You for a Ride in the New Maybach
A few years ago, Mercedes introduced the Maybach lineup of cars. They were uber luxury rides, meant to rival Rolls Royce and Bentley. However, the off-shoot never really caught on, and Mercedes pulled the plug on the venture.
Now, Mercedes is once again attempting to revive the luxury nameplate with the new S600 Maybach. The company has forgone the entire lineup of cars, and is now making Maybach a trim level on the standard S-Class.
That said, Maybach is back with a vengeance with the new 2015 Merecedes Maybach S600, as highlighted in MotorTrend’s latest Ignition episode below. Carlos Lago chauffeurs around one of the guys from RoadKill in Mercedes’ most uber luxury car.
MotorTrend seems impressed. But can the Maybach hang with the likes of Rolls Royce and Bentley still, or will dumbing down the nameplate to just a trim level somehow hurt the brand? In my opinion after sitting in the new car at the LA Auto Show, it’s ridiculously luxurious and can rival anyone it wants. But only time will tell if this new Maybach venture will succeed where the last one failed.
