Mercedes has been striving for high marks in safety for as far back as I can remember, and they’ve always done a good job of hitting those marks. Continuing that tradition is the new E-Class sedan, which was recently awarded the highest 5-star Euro NCAP rating — a major award.

Judging by the video below, this is a car that responds pretty well to accident damage. The airbags deploy quickly and work to prevent major injury. Even the side-pole impact test was relatively sedate, as the car deformed properly to dissipate the energy while protecting the driver.

In the second half of the test footage, you can see how the E-Class reacts to automated stops and pedestrians. The E-Class can brake for you, even if you aren’t paying attention, which can literally save someone’s life, possibly your own. This level of safety advancement is expected from Mercedes. Hopefully it will be available across the board soon.
