2018 Mercedes-Benz SLC: The Highs and Lows

By -

Its sporty persona and muscular fascia may lead you to believe the 2018 SLC is all fun and games, but there are some caveats.

Mercedes-Benz is known around the world for its fine vehicles and extreme attention to detail. The SLC is the latest iteration of the famous SLK, but it won’t take you long to realize that it falls between high end and entry level.

This video review by carwow brings us up to speed on the 2018 SLC, which seems to fulfill its role of an “entry-level German convertible.” Your host and reviewer Mat Watson, does an excellent job at highlighting the strengths and shortcomings of the SLC, as well as tips on how future owners could equip their Mercedes for a pleasurable ownership experience.

2018 SLC

Most of the downsides revolve around pricey options, and in one way or another, fit and finish. Issues like the infotainment screen not being centered, cheapy (but pricey) materials, and an outdated interior make most Mercedes aficionados look away in disgust. At the same time, it’s important to remember the SLC is sort of the passage way to the brand, where heftier price tags reveal sumptuous interiors and exhilarating performance.
Once on the road, the sleek hardtop convertible isn’t as passionate as its exterior might lead you to believe. As a result, one must drop considerable coin to get the optional handling package, which offers adjustable suspension, active exhaust, and other trinkets to sharpen the experience.
Is the 2018 SLC a total chum bucket? No. But, as Watson highlights, negotiating a good deal is paramount considering some of the spicy competition.
