Frankenstein AMG is the Craziest-looking ‘Built Not Bought’ Car Yet

By -

These guys put a W201 body on a W204 chassis, and the end result looks much better than we expected.

Swapping out parts for other ones isn’t the highest level of customization in the world. And despite some incredible builds we have seen throughout the years, not many come close to matching this one by Hand Built Cars on YouTube. It’s a W201 on the outside from the rocker panels upward, but everything else is a C63 AMG. This car is exactly what “built not bought” means. This is some serious fabrication work.

We aren’t sure what was wrong with either the W201 or the W204, or if there was anything wrong with either of them prior to being sawed in half, but that’s beside the point. Bracing was done to both cars to keep everything aligned as they were being hacked away, with the W201 A, B, and C pillars, along with rocker panels being transplanted on essentially just the floor, sub frames and wheel wells of the W204.

As the top and bottom were being put together, a hidden and fully integrated roll hoop was cleverly tucked inside of the A and B Pillars. It also provided extra rigidity for things that had to be re-located, such as the seat belt mount points.

Accommodations had to be made to the front end in order to fit all of the AMG cooling apparatus behind the new W201 exterior. As well, fitting the C63’s dashboard and electronics took custom fabrication to a new level, as it also included a custom center console for the COMAND controller.

Since the engine couldn’t even remain stock, long tube headers and a full exhaust were integrated together, with a dual exhaust ultimately ending at quad circular tailpipes in a Evo II bumper. Our hats are off to these builders. Even though we are left at the end of the video with an almost complete car, we have a feeling this won’t be the last we see of this ride.
