YouTuber Believes AMG E53 Is Worthy of Wearing the ‘Badge’

To some, lesser AMG’s aren’t deserving of the coveted three-letter insignia. After this review, you’ll see why the E53 earns its stripes.

Hand built engines are a signature of AMG’s precision and craftsmanship. Given that the E53 AMG eschews that procedure, does that make it any less of an AMG? Sofyan Bey from Redline Reviews doesn’t think so, especially when it comes to the engine. “This new model does have a higher numerical order because it has more power than the E43,” Bey explains.

In the E53, the engine gets its power in a very AMG type of way. It is turbocharged, with electric supercharging and electrified with a mild hybrid system. The turbo and supercharger alone give a stout 429 horsepower and 384 lb/ft of torque. Add on 20 horsepower and 180 lb/ft of torque in bursts for the hybrid system.

If you’re looking for some of AMG’s in-your-face styling like they have done with past Black Series models, well, you won’t find that here. “This particular one here with the silver exterior looks pretty plain Jane. Honestly it looks expensive, but compared to some of its competitors like the BMW 8-series or the Lexus LC, you’d be hard pressed to know this is a really fast car,” Bey notes. But for some, that subtlety might not be a bad thing.

“Subtle” doesn’t describe the interior. “You’ve got genuine carbon fiber, real metal trim, you’ve got leather stitching everywhere and premium high quality Napa leather… The interior will remind you exactly why this car has a sticker price of $100,000.” With contrasting red and black leather seats, on top of aluminum trim and carbon fiber, and premium audio, the interior certainly would please any AMG enthusiast.

But the most important thing in an AMG is arguably the engine, how it sounds, and how it makes the driver feel. Bey gives this the M256 high praise. Not only for the speed, which he estimates at 4 seconds flat to 60 miles per hour, but also for the noise. “I keep getting distracted by that lovely exhaust noise. The $1,250.00 for the AMG sport exhaust is worth every penny,” Bey says with a grin. In fact, he says one thing that really solidifies the E53 as a proper AMG; “This may very well be one of my favorite new engines.”
