Mercedes-AMG G63 by Posaidon Is Incredibly Fast
Tuned G63 rockets from 0-62 MPH in 3.6 seconds. That’s beyond what anyone has done so far!
Mercedes-Benz produces many versatile vehicles. But how many of them can really do it all? The new AMG G63 is quite possibly the one that can blend off-road performance with on-pavement speed. However, an aftermarket company recently took the SUV to another level. One that lands it squarely among the world’s quickest SUVs.
Posaidon stands guilty of unleashing a truly astounding upgrade to the G63. As reported by Motor1, they bolstered the AMG’s horsepower by 355 and boost torque by 316 pounds. It’s an impressive feat for a G-Wagen, as any vehicle with a boxy profile must battle aerodynamics to achieve such insanely fast performance figures. Additionally, it demonstrates the versatility of the 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 that’s at the heart of the G63.
Making Waves With One Crazy G63
Would Han Solo be jealous of the Posaidon G63? Probably. Like the Millennium Falcon, the tuned AMG is big, fast, and boasts speeds that belie its substantial size. Like Han, the company went about making some major changes to the engine. They threw out the AMG turbochargers for a pair of their own custom units. A new exhaust system also sees duty in the SUV, along with some ECU software tweaks. Posaidon also tinkered with the G63’s cooling system, cylinders heads, and air intake.
But they didn’t stop there. They prioritized weight reduction too. The hood is new and comes equipped with carbon fiber scoops designed for maximum air flow. Carbon-ceramic brakes also make an appearance in the heavily modified AMG G63.
Neck Snapping Acceleration
All of those upgrades bring total output to 940 horsepower and 943 Ib-ft of torque. It’s an astounding upgrade that really highlights the capability of turbocharged engines. What does all that power get you? As previously mentioned, the substantially reworked AMG G63 blasts from 0-62 MPH in 3.6 seconds. That’s a speed that can really only be matched by an AMG GT R Pro. Outside of Mercedes-Benz, the Lamborghini Urus is the only other performance SUV that is comparable. Acceleration figures between the two are identical and it also comes equipped with a twin-turbocharged 4.0 liter V8. That the G63 as tuned by Posaidon matches such a vehicle is a feat in itself given the rather aerodynamic profile of the Urus. By contrast, the G-Class, which is targeted more towards off-road duty, is a much boxier affair, and getting it to that point must have taken considerable time and effort on Posaidon’s part.
Unfortunately, pricing is not available at this time. But considering the amount of power coming out of their build, the dollar amount will likely reflect the considerable engineering that enables the G63 to pack some serious power. After all, it is a G-Wagen that can run to 174 mph if pushed. Posaidon isn’t some new outfit either. They’ve been developing aftermarket tunes for a host of Mercedes-Benz products over the years. In fact, they currently offer several different tunes for the new G-Class. More specifically, they can tune the AMG G63 to 700, 830, or 880 horsepower. But none of those are as insane as the 940 horsepower tune that’s bound to excite the owners that opt to get it.
