G-Boss: Custom Body Kit Turns a G-Class into a Clown Car

G-Boss

Aftermarket body kits are supposed to add some style or sophistication or aggressiveness to your ride. This G-Boss kit adds goofiness.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class makes a bold design statement right from the factory. It does not exactly blend into the automotive background. And that is one of the reasons why it is so popular. However, we can appreciate the fact that some people want to further distinguish themselves and their rides. To do that they turn to the aftermarket to give their G-Class a little extra pop. Some companies do a great job of this and make truly stunning modifications. However, sometimes aftermarket modifications can make a mess of the original design rather than enhance it. The G-Boss kit by G&B Design shown here looks a bit of a mess. Looks are subjective, so there may be folks out there that just love this G-Boss kit, but we suspect they will be in the minority.

The G-Boss kit is designed to fit all G-Class models from the 2000 through the 2018 model years. It is marketed as a widebody / aerodynamic package. The kit includes a front apron and lip, wheel arch extensions, a custom hood, side skirts, a roof and rear spoiler, rear apron and diffuser and door extensions. It will cost you a little over $13,000 for the kit. It may also cost you a little bit of your dignity. Perhaps on a black G-Class the kit would not look quite so silly. But this yellow SUV looks like a school bus designed by a 6-year-old.

The kit does not mention any modification to the interior, however, that does not appear to have been left stock. The interior of this G-Class has a lot of yellow cross stitching which is maybe not but too horrible. However, the most over the top modification on the interior is the sky-light headliner. Taking a page from the Rolls-Royce playbook is fine, but instead of just LED stars there is a large G BOSS in lights in the headliner. That modification pegs the tacky meter.

Looking on the positive side, the roof spoiler does include three LED lights. More lighting on an SUV is not a terrible idea so that can be useful. Outside of that, there is not a whole lot positive to say about this kit. You will stand out from the crowd. And if you live by the “there is no such thing as bad publicity” motto then the G-Boss kit might be exactly what you are looking for.

G-Class Side View

Perhaps G-Class owners could put the $13,000 towards some custom wheels or a stereo that would give more satisfaction than this kit, but what do we know? G&B Design has been in business for over a decade now so someone must be buying and enjoying the kits that they produce. If you do buy this kit, it might be a good idea to compliment it with some power modifications. That way maybe you have the crazy power to go along with the crazy looks. We clearly made our feelings known about this kit but would love to hear from you. Let us know if you love it or hate it in the MB World forums.
