AMG GT Black Series Rendering Reveals Behemoth Sans Camo

2020 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Rendering

Draped in matte black, the new AMG GT from Affalterbach has a big mouth to match the big power promised by the Black Series.

Once upon a time, the AMG Performance Studio in Affalterbach took a handful of two-door vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, and turned out the meanest machines ever to dominate the Nurburgring. Each car lost weight, and gained more aggressive looks, tons of power under the hood, and the sort of handling found in slot cars. The street-legal race cars were known as the AMG Black Series, of which the SLS version currently holds its place as the 22nd fastest vehicle around the Green Hell.

The special AMG series has lain dormant since the mid-2010s, waiting for the right time to return. That time is now upon us, in the form the AMG GT Black Series. Motor1 recently posted a couple of renders of what the newest entry might look like under the camo, and everyone else should be terrified.

Up front, the wide mouth and glowing headlights recall the face of the humpback anglerfish, with a grill perfect for devouring lesser machines from Ferrari and McLaren. The front spoiler is attached to the body through the toothy grill, helping to keep the nose down while other air flows through the vents to cool the big brakes.

Out back, a massive double-wing rear spoiler holds down the rear steamrollers to the ground, where four exhaust tips are paired-off to occupy each corner on either side of the rear diffuser. The whole affair is slammed to the pavement, just like the AMG GT3 race car, yet this GT won’t require a competition license to drive.

Mercedes-AMG GT R

Like most other AMGs, the AMG GT Black Series will have a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8. According to Motor1, though, it won’t be the one found in cars like the GT R. Instead, it’ll be a new design based on the M178 V8, one without electric turbos or electrification of any sort. It will have a power rating of around 700 horses, if not more, with the aim of taking the top slot from the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ as the fast production car to take a lap around the Nurburgring.

The new Black Series machine is expected to arrive in 2020 in low numbers, and a big price tag. We can’t wait.
