Perfect color, perfect wheels, and an oh-so-’80s Mercedes blue interior.

Mercedes-Benz has always been known for their understated, yet unmistakable styling. While stately simplicity has always been a hallmark of Mercedes-Benz design, some models pull it off better than others.

The Mercedes-Benz W123 series has long since been one of the most beloved Mercedes-Benz models. It was nearly an instant classic when it was released in late 1975. To this day, it maintains a dedicated following among Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts.

Diesel-powered sedans and wagons have earned a well-deserved reputation for durability and stone-cold reliability. Many folks forget that there was a hardtop coupe offered as well, and yes, you could get it with a diesel engine.

Coupe Styling, Diesel Power

The W123 coupe – dubbed C123 – is an exercise in uncluttered, timeless design. Perhaps the stylists knew that these things would last forever, and that’s why they made the design so timeless. Everyone loves a pillarless hardtop coupe. The thin-polished stainless steel trim piece that’s present with the windows are up gives us the best of both worlds.

This 1983 300CD that we found for sale in Ohio in Facebook Marketplace looks just about perfect. The grey exterior, blue interior, and seven-spoke wheels make the whole package look just about perfect to us.

It’s a well-preserved example, with just a slight amount of rust around the wheel arches that could be repaired quite easily at this stage. The minor rust was probably caused by rock chips.

The interior looks almost perfect, and the engine bay looks reasonably clean as well. The listing states that it’s in “good running condition,” although the mileage may be inaccurate.

Regardless, this would be a great way to get behind the wheel of a classic Mercedes-Benz coupe. The seller is asking $3,900, and with some negotiation, the price could likely be closer to $3,500.

At that price, you could buy yourself a rotten basket case of a Mercedes 560 SEC, or this beautiful grey C123 that’s ready to enjoy. As much as we adore the C126, this C123 seems like a far better choice.
