Mercedes-AMG E63S Is First No-Compromise Super Saloon

Not Only Is the New E63S AMG Fast, It’s Also Comfortable, Technologically Advanced, and Really Pretty

Are you looking for a reasonably-sized sedan that you can use for suburban parent activities? But what if you also want it to be manically fast and ludicrously quick? Then the E63S AMG might be the one you’re looking for. This is a four-door sedan that has a drift mode, in case you need any more proof.

As you can see in the DRIVETRIBE review above, the E63S AMG is the definitive “one car” solution. It fulfills pretty much every need for a car enthusiast. And it’s better than an Audi RS6 or BMW M5, too. Get behind the wheel and feel what you’re missing.

When the AMG engineers got together and decided that they needed a 604-horsepower engine in a sedan, some people might have thought them a bit nuts. But the end result is one of the best all-round performance sedans ever built. This 63 has a 4.0-liter turbocharged engine that sounds absolutely great. It’ll roast tires, cruise on the autobahn at triple-digit speeds, and tear up the race track if you so desire.

Outside of the performance gubbins, the E63S also has a full suite of Mercedes comfort, electronic wizardry, and autonomous driving options. You can cruise down the motorway with your hands off the wheel. Just reach over, flick the turn signal switch, and the car will change lanes for you. It’s like you’re riding in a guided missile. Set the coordinates, make minor adjustments as you go, and you’re there before you know it. Proper Mercedes tech, all around.

The jury is still out on the car’s massive front grille nostrils, but the rest of the car looks properly beautiful, with restrained design features and a cohesive, tasteful arch to the overall shape. We love the wheels, but we’re torn on the matte finish. Didn’t that die in 2010?
