Mercedes-Benz S500 Pullman is the Ultimate Baller Ride: Marketplace Finds

Mercedes-Benz S500 Pullman

S500 Pullman limousine is available for just over a tenth of what it cost when new, and it is still in great condition.

While flipping through the MBWorld Marketplace, we came across this 2002 Mercedes-Benz S500 Pullman limousine and we immediately fell in love. There are few ways to turn heads at a special event like showing up in a limousine, but showing up in your own limo is the true definition of baller status. The downside is that buying a new limousine can cost you upwards of a half-million dollars, making it nearly impossible for the average Joe to pull it off.

Fortunately, with this S500 Pullman being listed by hdebbagh for just $45,000, it is as budget-friendly as it gets for a modern limo in proper working order that looks great inside and out.

S500 Pullman Introduction

When the OP first posted this 2002 Mercedes-Benz S500 Pullman for sale, he included some information about this specific car while also sharing information that appears to have been borrowed from the Mercedes website.

“For sale is my Genuine 2002 Mercedes-Benz S500 Pullman with 29,500 miles

By listing it on MB specific forum, I know you guys know what this car is but I’ll still include a quick description:

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Pullman can easily be distinguished from the long-wheelbase version of the S-Class by virtue of a wheelbase, which has been extended by another full metre.

The suffix Pullman alone is enough to give away the noble character of the limousine: back in the mid-19th century, the American industrialist George Mortimer Pullman from Chicago in the state of Illinois made a name for himself by building lavishly equipped train carriages. Ever since then, the name has been synonymous with maximum comfort on wheels.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Pullman models leave the factory equipped with AIRmatic air suspension, the ESP electronic stability program and a five-speed automatic transmission.”

I was lucky enough to get this very rare machine passed on to me, but as much as I love it and love taking care of it, I am not a collector nor do I drive it or get driven in it.

This car was $400,000 and as you know these types of cars tend to have interesting history of ownership. Indeed this one does and has the documentation to back it up.

The car is in great condition for its age, other than normal wear and tear. AIRmatic works fine, and it runs and drives perfectly and has only been maintained at the dealership. It has a TV divider and a Phone to communicate with the driver from the cabin.

The VIN listed is the US VIN (given to the car when imported to the US. Labeled on driver door) and will not appear in searches such as Carfax. I am including a cropped picture of the title to show that the DMV does recognize this vehicle with this VIN.

Specs:
Exterior Color: Dark Turquoise Metallic
Interior: Oyster
Engine: 5.0 liter V8
Mileage: 29,500 miles
Price: $45,000 negotiable”

The OP also included a handful of pictures, several of which we have shared here, but for a look at the detail shots, click here to visit the sale thread.

The Ultimate Boy’s or Girl’s Night Out Car

Realistically, most of us don’t have a use for a limo like this gorgeous S500 Pullman, but there is no question that owning it would be awesome. Imagine heading to the grocery store for a case of a beer and a couple steaks for grilling, pulling up in a Mercedes-Benz limo. You would climb out of the front seat as onlookers would wait to see who got out of the back, but no one would get out of the back. You would just be that guy or girl who drives around in a limo.

Better yet, say that you and a group of your friends are headed out for a night on the town. Someone has to be the designated driver, so have that person drive the S500 Pullman while the rest of the group lounges in the plush passenger space in the rear. You would be the group that rolled up in a limo, which is a great icebreaker for a group of single guys or girls.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
