Classic Mercedes-Benz

Classic Mercedes-Benz in fantastic shape is rarely an inexpensive proposition. However, this W124 might be the exception.

The dream of owning a classic Mercedes-Benz is often stymied by high prices for some of the most desirable models. But that is not always the case. The iconic W124 chassis is still loved by many today. But despite the love they represent some of the best bargains out there. Take for example this lovely 1994 Mercedes E320. It is for sale right now on Craigslist for a very reasonable $6,500. That is roughly 10 percent of what a new E-Class would cost you. Sure nearly 30 years of Mercedes-Benz innovations have taken place since this classic Mercedes-Benz was built. But you still get a lot of car for the money.

The for-sale ad provides great detail into the car history and shows that this E320 was well taken care of. It indicates only 145,385 miles on the odometer. Under the hood is the familiar 3.2L straight six connected to a 4-speed automatic transmission. A new head gasket has been installed and all service receipts for that and all other work performed are included in a binder with the car. A new wiring harness was installed back in 2012. This car should provide the new owner with many more trouble-free and comfortable miles.

On the exterior the car looks to be very straight. No accidents are reported. There is no rust and only a few rock chips and a small ding blemish the exterior. Plus, this of course has the classic W124 styling. A solid and stately looking machine. It is not designed to look like a bar of soap like so many modern cars on the road today. This car has timeless looks. Therefore, it will look as good in 2051 as it does today. And it will probably be worth far more money then.

Hop inside and you would think you just time-warped back to a Mercedes dealership in 1994. The interior appears to be nearly brand new. There is Zebrano wood and leather throughout. 10-way power leather seats are included and have no tears in the leather or splits in the stitching. The sunroof works and the headliner is clean. And the glass is all original and all power windows work. The radio is the factory MB Becker unit. All switches and features work except the ambient air temperature display on the dash cluster. In addition, the original and untouched first aid kit still sits under the cover on the parcel shelf.

This is a lot of Mercedes for the money. You could buy this as a daily driver, and it will serve that purpose just fine. Or, if you have a new teenage driver at home, this will make an excellent first car. This could also be a fun weekend car that you could take to any Rad-era car show that you desire. The options are endless. In this day and age of crazy used car prices this classic Mercedes-Benz seems to be an absolute steal. Let us know what you think of this W124 in the MB World forums.
