Stunning Classic Benzes Wow the Crowds at India Car Rally
Fifth Annual Mercedes-Benz Classic Car Rally featured a ton of vintage beauties of every platform and body style in the last 90 years.
With over nine decades under the belt, Mercedes-Benz has put out some of the finest models ever to grace the earth. Imagine what it would be like to all of those years of work and art in one place, rolling through the streets of a major city, and leaving all in awe.
That happened in Mumbai, India earlier this month. Autocar India was there for the 5th Annual Mercedes-Benz Classic Car Rally, where over 90 cars across those nine decades took part in a rally for the ages.
Among the many participants of this year’s rally, flagged-off by none other than the new managing director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, Martin Schwenk, were a handful of cars rare to India. The rarities include the only 300 SL Roadster in the country, owned by the Maharaja of Gondal, an ultra-rare 500K, the only W08 Nurburg in India, and a 1914 Benz Runabout 8/20, the oldest Benz in the country.
The 16-mile rally route began and ended at the Sofitel Mumbai BKC hotel, where the parade of Benzes rolled through Bandra, crossing over Mahim Bay via the Bandra-Worli Sea Link into Worli Sea Face, then circling back to the start.
“The Mercedes-Benz Classic Car Rally 2018 was ‘simply fabulous’ for us to experience with our 1914 Benz Runabout,” said its owner, Rajesh Babu. “It was absolutely incredible to see so many passionate Mercedes-Benz classic car owners and their classic car collections in one location.”
