Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR

With only a couple dozen ever made, now is the chance to purchase this V12 beast!

The Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR is a special vehicle. Created by Mercedes-AMG in 1997 as a racecar for the FIA GT Championship, this car was made for one thing only – speed. However, to compete in the FIA GT Championship, Mercedes-Benz had to make 25 street-legal versions of the CLK GTR. Over the years, these cars have been rarely seen on the market, until now.

James Edition has a Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR for sale right now, but unfortunately, it’s probably out of your price range, with an asking price of almost $2.7 million. When the CLK GTR went on sale in 1997, Mercedes-Benz brought on Guinness to certify that with a sticker price of $1,547,620, the CLK GTR was the world’s most expensive production vehicle. Now, 20 years later, the cost has gone up considerably.

So, what will the $2.7 million get you? The CLK GTR comes with a 6.9-liter V12 engine that produces 604 horsepower and 572 pound-feet of torque. Not too shabby at all. But what makes this vehicle so special is how little differentiates the road vehicle from the racecar. To keep the price “low,” Mercedes-Benz didn’t want to bring on a team to reconceptualize the vehicle for the street. So, the only major changes are that the road cars have leather seats, A/C, two storage compartments underneath each door, and traction control. They also changed the rear wing from the racing wing to a more hoop-style, integrated wing.

With a zero to 60 time of about 3.8 seconds, and a top speed of approximately 214 mph, the new owner of this vehicle will be getting a true racecar. Odds are though, at the asking price, whoever buys this car will probably keep it in pristine shape in an immaculate garage. Would you?
