D.I.Y.: Replace Multi-Function Switch in Your C209, W203

This next step is where you can save yourself a whole lot of time and reduce your headache levels considerably. We were foolish enough to think that the next step of removal was the steering angle sensor/clock spring (red circles). This is not the next step, but it is one of them. We removed it anyway and couldn’t figure out why stuff was still attached to the steering column.

Then we realized there’s a pesky T30 that needs to be removed from the underside of the steering column (red arrow). With that T30 fitting fully removed, gently pull the whole steering column switch assembly towards you. It will take a little tug, but not a lot of force is necessary. Things get very easy from this point on.

With the steering column levers away from the car, now you can remove the steering angle sensor (red circles as mentioned above). Be careful not to rotate or move it, as you could potentially make the car’s brains go haywire with a weird sensor input. Next, remove the actual switch itself. In the three red circles below, you’ll see T10 fittings. Some are a tight squeeze, but they should be manageable.
