Ultimate W202 AMG Picture Thread
Just like the C209 picture thread, we’ve decided to highlight the W202 AMG as well! With the first real taste of AMG to the consumer market in the form of the C36, the W202 was really the ground-breaking model from our friends in Affalterbach. Like the M3 of the time, the C36 had the “buzzin half dozen” of 6 cylinders all in a line. Unlike BMW though, AMG felt the 6-cylinder wasn’t enough, and after a few years they thought to cram the 4.3 litre M113 V8 into our beloved boxy sedan. In doing so, AMG created what was to become a legend among mortals.
Looking at a W202 today, it remains a surprisingly compact car in terms of exterior dimensions, but still has the relatively unadventurous, albeit classic Mercedes styling. I had a W202, but it wasn’t an AMG. It was the dime-a-dozen C280 sport, but boy did it solidify my love for the 202 chassis. The C36 and C43 remain a slightly rare, and underrated car from the AMG lineup. I still find myself shopping for one every now and then.
