What On Earth Is Going On With R107 Values?

After 27 bids on Bring a Trailer, this 560SL failed to meet its $58,000 reserve. Wait… $58,000 reserve?!

Depending on the angle you look at this, the R107 is either dramatically skyrocketing in value, or this seller has a flight of fancy when it comes to sale price. Auction results for this 560SL don’t show how high bids actually went, but clearly they missed the mark on the $58,000 reserve price. By how far they missed the mark is uncertain. A little further research shows this car is also for sale on eBay with a “Buy It Now” price of $74,900 (!). That deserves an expletive.

Granted, this example is extremely low mileage, well-maintained, and well-documented. Clocking in at under 6,000 miles, it has almost no blemishes at all, which does have at least some bearing on its value.

Quickly searching for other 560SLs for sale shows their value is climbing but only for a select few. Options, color combinations, and model year seem to have a small impact on value, but it’s the ultra-low-mileage ones that see the highest premiums. If you’re not looking to quickly drain your wallet, there’s still plenty of examples under $20,000, but your odometer will have turned over a significantly higher number.

Is the R107 the next investment-quality classic Benz to get into? Only time will tell, but all indications point to yes.
