It’s certainly should come as no surprise by now, but the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E300 is one impressive vehicle.

The new model is by far one of the most impressive sedans the carmaker has rolled out in years. Although, nailing down the tenth-gen E300’s appeal to one specific thing is pretty hard. Then again, that’s the beauty of a vehicle that leaves you thinking about it long after you’ve had a chance to spend time behind the wheel.

That said, here are five of our biggest takeaways after driving the new, much-talked about Mercedes sedan.

1. Classic Mercedes Styling

I’m sure coming up with a new design for a Mercedes-Benz like the E300 isn’t easy. Namely for one reason: if you deviate too far from the car’s classic lines, you run the risk of alienating some of the more loyal Mercedes buyers. On the other hand, if it doesn’t strike a new chord with consumers, it comes off more like a refresh. But design cues like the more muscular front-end on the new E300, coupled with the car’s slightly longer wheel base, strike just the right balance.

2. Nothing Beats the Feel of True Luxury

If you find yourself drawn to the 2017 Mercedes E300’s exterior, then you’ll definitely be sold on the sedan once you step inside. Interior details like the wide-screen cockpit, Natural Grain Ash wood, and the option of 64 interior lighting colors makes for quite the experience, even when simply sitting still in the car. Make no mistake about it, the Mercedes E300 is premium luxury at its best, evident practically everywhere you touch the sedan inside.

3. Performance Is More Than Power

Funny how the right car makes you realize that big power isn’t everything for a luxury vehicle. The Mercedes E300 — equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with 241 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque — proves that every time you drive it, thanks to features like a new multi-chamber air suspension system. Although, you do tend to find yourself opting for the E300’s “Sport+” mode, one of the four selectable driving dynamics offered in the car.

4. Technology at Its Best

The trouble with a lot of new “high-tech” vehicles is that they tend to look and feel a lot like “high-tech” vehicles, which is okay if you’re really into gadgets. But if you’re more into a true premium luxury experience, then you probably don’t want the technology to be too overbearing. Clearly, the Mercedes team gets it, which is why even with new high-tech features like the car’s optional semi-autonomous Drive Pilot system, the E300 still gives you every bit of that premium luxury feel that you’d expect from a next-gen Mercedes.

5. Premium Taste Need Not Break the Bank

Chances are, if you’re in the market for a premium luxury sedan, price isn’t really a major factor. If so, you’d probably be better off opting for one of those other less-expensive nameplates, masking itself as a luxury sedan. Of course, with a base price of $52,150 for the E300, you’d definitely be selling yourself short. The extra cash you might wind up paying for the Mercedes is well worth it, given how much car you get for the money in the new sedan.
