Probably going to buy a 190E. Need Some Input

Hello. I am interesting in getting a 87-93 190E. I did some background information on these cars. I am looking to get the 2.6 or rare 2.5 if I can find it, I am not considering a 2.3 and I would probably like to get a 5 speed. Anyways I am looking for a cruising car since I need to travel high distances next year.

Can someone tell me about the potential of the cars, their weaknesses, and what you personally like/dislike from your own incounters with your car.

I am pretty set on this. I currently own a 95 Z28, gas is getting more expensive, it is an uncomfortable ride for long distances, and it has no luxury. Any input is welcome, thank you.

Knowing how/when the car was serviced by previous owners is like gold when buying any used Mercedes and generally buying one from the original owner whose children haven't abused the hell out of it is even better.

Probably gonna end up being around 8k to spend. But I'd rather buy one that is around 3k, I don't want to spend all my money on a car like I did last time.

Great Car, Owned one before. Its a Benz and thats all that matters. Even today it still looks hot. Ladies be feelin the ride.

Only concern really is rust

I'm sure other owners may have encounted other problems that a lot of the UK 190E's do rust especially round the back arches in the boot (trunk) the water runs dwon through the arial and down to the boot wells. It all depends on wether the dealer fitted the arial correctly when it was new as this was a dealer fitted option. The other places is around the boot lock well thats where my 87 16V went and I think that may be due to slight scraches from the key that other the years build up. I would recommend you check the boot wells though.

'92 190E 2.6
I bought a '92 here in Miami and it was owned by the beach where the air is really salty. Had rust on one corner of the tailight seal (the seals are shot), one bottom corner of rear window right under the seal meets the body. Bottom of doors on the inside, and front door hinges. I stopped all the rust by dremeling it but made a hole in the metal by the window, a hole on where the hinges are and getting water into the trunk because I had to grind off so much metal... needs some body work but at least I stopped the rust.

Good luck, chassis is incredibly solid as the whole car, no rattles, shakes after 13 years and 110k miles.

Be ready to change the head gasket, front suspension rubber, shocks in front, alot of the plastic plugs in the engine bay will fall apart if you press on them. This car is a great value.
